Will Snoop bring the West Coast back?
« on: July 30, 2006, 06:14:46 AM »
First off, I know I ain't posted on this site for a long time/at all but I felt I had to speak on Snoop after reading his interviews.

The question I am putting is whether people really think the west coast can be brought back by Snoop, or can it be brought back at all?

On the point of Snoop. Clearly he is trying to show love for the west coast by shouting out homies, doing collaborations and making groups. I think most substantially this appointment as president of Koch West (although I am not sure its finalised) is most substantial. In my opinion Western Union are weak and the modern rap fans look not only at lyrics but beats. I think the beats are weak as well. They clearly aren't the future of the west coast and I personally don't rate them one bit. Warzone is more promising but I fear that they will fail for 3 reasons.

1. Again in my view the beats are fairly weak.

2. I think MC Eight is dare I say a little washed up and Goldie Loc has missed his chance. I got love for Kam though but I think to really bring him on fire he needs Paris beats and that sought of political edge. Crooked I would have been a dope edition.

3. Snoop is not a business man and doesn't know how to put a album together on his own. I back this point up with the Cali Is Active album. The lead single was the dopest shit I have heard for years. But mixing that up with bland attempts at East and Southern music just made the album shit. I think Daz and Kurupt are still hot and its a shame that they aren't getting out there.

I think the idea of a Koch West is good. Snoop isn't a good at business but a he will have a management structure behind him. So bring out B-Real etc. that way.

On the wider view of the west coast I am begining to fear that it won't be coming back. Raps golden era has gone and I worry that the Souths time is really a sign rap is morphing into a new pop genre. I think also latin music will be come far more dominant because of their socioeconomic circumstances and there sheer population (e.g. Omar Cruz and the wider Reggaeton). I hope I am wrong as Bishop Lamont, Crooked I and possibly Glasses Malone, Planet Asia and Diego Redd could go places. Unfortuntaly the only man who can bring them out is Dr. Dre. Hopefully a new genius of this sought will emerge as Dre won't be around for ever.

Don't mean to be cold and sharp after your essay, but still: Noone will bring the West "back" anytime soon, if ever.
Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

I know its long but I had summit to say. I personally question whether the West can be brought back as I think rap is dying out anyway. But I love west coast music
so I am gonna hope I am proved wrong. We always seem to do well when the East is quiet and they are at present so you never know.

Thats a tuff one, the rest of the game is so hard on the suoth right now. Myabe tho you got Snoop, Game, X to the z, Dre and detox is gonna start getting some buzz and well hate me for saying this but when 50 drops Dre will be all over there so thats promotion for the west as well.

I think Dre will bring the west back if anyone is going to do it. The last time the west was in the spotlight was when Dre dropped 2001 back in '99. We had Snoop drop 3 albums in 3 years with No Limit, the last of which was the best one, The Last Meal. Xzibit had Restless, and to top it off Dre was all over both of those records. Dre will put the spotlight back on the west when he drops Detox, and then it's just a matter of other west coast artists to release quality material at the same time to keep the buzz going.

True. Snoop has been one of the (Very) few people actually keeping the West a float. He seems dedicated to his coast, so he could play a big role in it.

I agree with cuzzo that said rap wont be around long enough for the West to ever truly come back. Almost everything is stale as soon as it comes out. Rap is almost 100% meaningless and disposable now with the exception of a small handful of artists.

Dre is doin a good job bringin the WEst Back with Busta and Eve doin beats wit 50 and Gunit Mobb deep Ohh wait none of them are West Coast artists ??? LOL
Dre can do it but right now it seems he aint lookin out West to be honest I dont see Bishop Lamont doin big thangs Dre should sign Crooked that would be interesting
