Message from R-Tistic....
« on: August 03, 2006, 11:06:46 AM »
What's goin on...

I haven't been around to post much this whole summer, for a number of reasons. Primarily, I have been working an internship at Directv, working 9 hours a day, so I haven't had much time for anything else, especially regarding music. I am seeing several new cats on the boards, and there are some names I haven't been seeing as much.

Many of y'all remember that I was working on an album called "R-Ticulation" that I was hoping to drop earlier in the year. Well as of now, it has been scrapped for many different reasons. Overall, I didn't like the direction that it was going, and I realized that creating an album without any major funding or assistance is a helluva task. I have more than enough beats that had the chance to be on the album, so that wasn't a problem...however, I thought that having beats alone meant the album would come together easily. I was aiming for a compilation album, but it was very hard to get different people to the studio to record...and even when I did, most of the songs just weren't moving me enough to want to put it out to the public. The sound quality was probably C level, and that was a problem as well. There are several more problems that I encountered, and it definitely let me see how major albums can get pushed back and cancelled, even when the fans are begging to hear it. Personally, I wasn't going to drop anything that wasn't at least 8/10 overall, meaning beats and rapping/song construction...and from how I was hearing it, the beats were 8.5/10...the raps were 6.5/10, and overall songs were about 6/10. I am realizing the difference from being a beat maker and making good beats...to being able to produce and complete strong, solid songs.

It has been very hard to do music while going to school out of state full time, and working full time when I am in L.A. So I will focus on making 2-3 SOLID songs to give to y'all before the summer is over...and hopefully, one of them will be with Murs and our other cousin who is going to Juliard as a pianist.

Other than that...I haven't been around the L.A. rap scene a whole lot, so I can't tell you too much of what's been going it. Personally, it seems as if the "New West" is making slow progress, and I can't even tell what direction it is going to go in as of now. Glasses is definitely workin hard as hell, and I know Bishop is doing the same. I still think we need a few more rappers and producers to help revolutionize the sound of L.A. music, because everybody's either soundin stuck in 94, or soundin like B and C-level East Coast mixtape rappers.

I would definitely like to thank Rud, SGV, Nima, Overseer, Nik, Justin, and everyone else from the boards and the staff, for helping me with several things and supporting what I have been doing. I am finished working tomorrow, and I am going to spend some time in the studio to come up with whatever I can while I am here. I have met a few west coast legends since I've been here, such as Daz and MC Hammer, but I haven't made too many connects like I should have been doing. But I will be around, asnwering whatever questions I can and giving insight on whatever is going on...and in the lab, I am going to do my best to re-up and step the game up for young west coast producers. If anybody wants to hear any of my tracks, or if anybody wants to connect while I am in L.A., get at me.

Thanks a lot for that. Yeah...and the main reason I was somewhat rushing to do the album is because I had the song on radio, and I had to drop it with perfect timing. I had a lot in place, but a lot of it just collapsed, for the most part because of conflicts in timing when I was in town the last few times. Most people I was going to have on there who hadn't dropped their verses were busy with their projects and performing, so it was hard for us to hook up at times.

Nice to have you back, been a while.

Sad to hear that you scrapped the album, but you seem to have strong reasons. Maybe you could consider releasing it on the internet sometime, for us all to hear it.

I'm looking forward to those tracks you mentioned. Good luck!

great to see ya again r-tistic. that's too bad about the album, however things happen for a reason most of the time, and its sounds like your pursuit of a career at directv (or telecommunications, whatever it may be) was probably the best path for you at this point in your life. so good luck homie, and we'll all be lookin forward to those tracks! stay up homie!  8)
