Rakim Announces Fall Tour; Gives Up-And-Comers Chance To Open His ShowThursday - August 24, 2006He is one of the most respected hip-hop veterans in the game. Few artists have had as great an impact on the development and progression of the art-form's lyrical style as Rakim. He is a legend, who is still doing it today. Fresh off headlining crowds in Boston, New York's Central Park and along the East Coast, the rapper has announced that he will head out on a national tour hitting 25 different markets, including Los Angeles, DC and Chicago to name a few, throughout the month of September. DJ Kid Capri will be backing Rakim along with artists Ras Kass, Styles P, Brother Ali and a host of other special guests. Also, a very unique opportunity is being offered for up-and-comers looking for some much needed recognition, by auditioning for a spot on stage opening for the God MC. The Brooklyn Bodega (BrooklynBodega.com), who will serve as the online headquarters for the tour and tour related content, will select several markets and allow aspiring MCs to audition for the opening slot via YouTube and Myspace. "The Bodega considers it an honor to be a part of his tour," said James Blagden, Creative Director for Brooklyn Bodega. "Just as Rakim revolutionized hip-hop from Paid In Full through The Master, online social networks have revolutionized the way people are introduced to new music. It's incredible that a legend of Rakim's status is embracing this new industry reality at such a grassroots level. Winning a chance to open up for Rakim is a rare opportunity for virtually any artist to possibly share a stage with a true legend of hip-hop." Interested artists should visit BrooklynBodega.com for specifics.
