The "First and Last" trend with hip hop fans

why is it that everyone always likes the first and last album of a rapper the best? its like that on this board, and its like that all over the internet, and its sorta like that with a lot of my friends and kids i know who are into hip hop. everyone almost always says that someone's first album is their best (which is true in many cases, but not all) and that their latest album is "their best since their first one". lets take nas for example...
when illmatic came out, people liked it and stuff, it wasnt that popular but the people who heard it liked it. good album.
when It Was Written came out, everyone was all like "its good but he sold out, hes all commercial now, its not a classic like his first one", i noticed that no one called Illmatic a classic till It Was Written came out.
when I Am came out, everyone's like "NAS IS BACK!!! IT WAS WRITTEN SUCKED, BUT NOW HES BACK TO HIS ILLMATIC DAYS, THIS IS HIS BEST SINCE ILLMATIC!!!"
when Nastradamus came out, everyone said the same thing, except this time they were like "IT WAS WRITTEN AND I AM SUCKED, NOW HES BACK TO HIS ILLMATIC STYLE FINALLY, HIS BEST SINCE ILLMATIC!!!"
now that Stillmatic is out, everyone is saying the SAME THING! and this time they are saying that Nastradamus sucked also! damn, when nas's next album comes out everyone's gonna be saying that Stillmatic wasnt any good, but the new one is his best since Illmatic.
same thing with Snoop Dogg, with every album he comes out with, everyone say "SNOOP IS BACK!!!!" i even hear people saying that hes gets better and better with every album since doggystyle. that isnt true at all in my opinion, and if you actually study his style, i dont see how you could disagree with me. i thought snoop was AWESOME on Doggfather, his flow may have not been quite as good as Doggystyle, but then again it was a slightly different style, but his lyrics had more substance for sure. the only reason Doggfather wasnt as good as Doggystyle was because the production wasnt that great. with every album after that, he seems to have gotten slightly worse. here's my opinion of the quality of the Snoop albums from best to worst
1. Doggystyle
2. Doggfather
3. DMW + No Limit Top Dogg tied
4. Tha Last Meal (the beats and guest appearences made this album, Snoop himself was worse than ever, not to say that he was bad, but just not as great as he was)
4. Da Game... (even though Snoop himself was better than he was on No Limit Top Dogg and Tha Last Meal, the guest appearences and beats brought the album quality down. i thought Snoop's flow and lyrics were actually pretty good in this album, and so did everyone else until No Limit Top Dogg came out and they found a new album to jump on)
don't get me wrong, i dont dislike Snoop or his new stuff just cause i say hes getting worse. even though he keeps getting worse, i think hes still a good rapper, just getting worse though. i like all his albums too. many of you say all kinds of bad things about Da Game..., i think you should listen to it again and listen to Snoop's verses and then compare them to his verses on Tha Last Meal and you will realize that he was better on Da Game...
anyway, back to my "First and Last" topic... i would say that it also applies to Jay-Z, everyone automatically says his 1st album is his best and his new one is his 2nd best. i aint gonna go into my opinion on his albums, im just gonna say that its weird that no one else seems to realize this trend besides me.
PS: no disrespect towards Snoop, Nas, or Jay-Z intended. i like all of them, their old and new stuff and i support and buy all their stuff.

oh yeah, ill say this about Snoop. he has actually shown a couple of signs of going back to his Doggfather (NOT Doggystyle like everyone likes to say) days. the only thing is, i dont know if these are just unreleased songs that he just decided to put out now. One is the song "21st Street" of the Eastsidaz promo. his verses in that song reminded me of something from tha Doggfather because it was so smooth. and also his verse on "Yo Sassy Ways" was real smooth too, it sounded like it coulda been something from 96 also. but other than that, he really isnt that smooth anymore. hes still good, just not smooth like he used to be. sorta choppy if you ask me.

No. Actually the Source gave Illmatic 5 mics when it first came out. People recognized it as a classic right away. But cats like me got caught sleeping, cause we were sucking so much west coast dick, and at that age all I wanted to hear was gangsta shit anyway.

I feel you on that sassy ways verse. he was real smooth. He is tight as fuck when he comes smooth he doesnt do that anymore I wounder why? He comes chopy now. I also think he tries to get to complex with his flow what made him good to start with was he just said simple shit in a diffrent way. just look at this "1 2 3 and to the 4 snoop doggy dogg and dr. dre at yo do" that's simple as hell but the way he said was smooth and the beat was perfect for him. I still he and dre were made for eachother. Snoop blew up dre and dre blew up snoop. eventhough dre was know durring his NWA days but never as big as the Chrionic days..
