One WII question

They seem to be flaunting around the idea of the backwards compatibility with the Gamecube, but there seems to be no mention anywhere of whether or not you can use the Gamecube controllers by plugging them into either the console itself, or the bottom of the remote. In the interview that Seer posted up it seemed to suggest the DK Bongos could be connected to the remote so I assume this would account for the Gamecube controllers too? Seems a bit stupid if you have to go out and buy four of their "classic" controllers just to play Gamecube games.

yes there is mention of it.. ! its 100% backwards compatible controllers AND memory cards via the top flap

oh and the one thing i've not seen confirmed is that the "classic controller" doesnt plug into the gamecube slot.. but in fact into the nunchuck port on the wii mote..

thats pretty dope, thats the only thing that disapointed me with my 360, the fact that i couldnt play all of the old xbox games with out an emulator/patch that u download from xbox live...

Wii looks like its gonna be huge, props to nintendo for keeping it old school with the entertainment value but also being fresh with the new ideas such as the wii remote.

I'm pretty sure that not only does the classic controller plug into the wii mote, the wiimote itself snaps into the back of the classic controller, making it a hybrid wireless snes style remote control.

i dont think it does.. otherwise that big dangly lead wouldnt be in the pics.. i think it just bolts on like the nunchuck does.. essentially using the wii-mote as its bitch for transmission

no, i mean the controller plugs into the wii mote, but that would suck because the wiimote would just hang off of the controller... so Nintendo designed a little caddy system where instead of dangling the wiimote underneath the controller, the wiimote snaps into the back of the classic controller so it's all tidy and basically the two are snapped together so you don't have to drag one.  they still plug into each other.... by wireless I mean the two together aren't wired to the wii like a gamecube controller would be.

I found the quote from IGN, who played with the controller a while back at E3.


"We also discovered a feature not apparent in the picture. There are two horizontal slits on the underside of the controller body, and instead of that little center nub, there is a recessed button. Pressing the button moves plastic pieces visible through the horizontal slits. Nintendo reps admitted they did not know what was planned for this feature, though we believe that it must be a way of securing some sort of attachment to the controller. We know that the Virtual Console controller connects to the Wii-mote via the connection usually used by the nun-chuck, and we're currently speculating that the slots may be used to accept an attachment that will mount the Wii-mote on the underside of the Virtual Console controller. Not only would such an arrangement keep things uncluttered, but it would also allow the Virtual Console controller to sense movement and point, just like the Wii-mote on its own."
