Hip Hop: Is it Fallin Off or Just Changing???
« on: December 16, 2001, 11:20:33 PM »
me and suga foot were talkin about this and i think that some rappers are gettin lazy and dependin on their shit to sound the same as it used to without doin the work.  suga said that they are appealin to different audiences now so they had to change their style.  i think that both of us are right.  what do y'all think???

Peace

You have to keep evolving.. These songs about females, macking hoes, like Warren G's new album have really gotten old with me, shallow bullshit.

my opinion always changes on this..sometimes i think..hip hop is so diverse...theres a huge underground scene...my own country's scene is gettin bigger and wether u into underground, deep, dark, party hip hop or whatever....its available and there for u....

other times im bitter and can barely stand to watch mtv for longer than 10 mins with all the 'shallow bullshit' as stated above..

it depends on how you look at it,  like kurupt,  he has fallen off but he has changed his style to try to appeal to a larger audience

artists fall off coz they sell out, they evolve but not for the good of the hiphop scene, but for the good of their own pockets

i think that it has to change cuz times change and so do the artists.  they mature and rap about things more relevant to them now(ie Dr Dre)

hip hop is almost substanceless these days but  i look at it like this

in rock shit can be OVERLY substanated with bands like stain'd and Nickleback talking about every single depressing thought of life and then in hip hop you got people like Juvenile and Fabulous being OVERLY materialistic

so i just look at it like this, if you limit yourself  to just hip hop but your looking for deeper shit grab yourself a rock or soul album (hint hint not nickleback or staind) but if you wanna get down and party grab yourself some of that rap....both pretty much serve their purpose well

Right now people are sayin' "What happened to the good ol days?"  in reference to the death row era.  Back then people were sayin "What happened to the good ol days?"  in reference to Afrikka Bambaata & Sugar Hill Gang.  In a few years we'll all be saying "What happened to the good ol days?"  in reference to what's going on now.  Shit doesn't get worse, it just changes.  Hip Hop has to grow up with it's audience.

Good point, but I don't agree.
I think too many "artists" are putting out too many albums.
Some summed it up with the phrase "shallow bullshit" and I think that was spot on.
Idiotic lyrics closer to nursery rhymes than songs, and music put together in about 5 minutes.
That's the problem.

Word... "Everything is everything just given a different name" besides I think theirs alot of great rap records coming out but they're below the radar, there's deep, spiritual, philisophical shit.. it's all out there, you just got to look....Hip-hop is the most diverse form of music, that's why I never need to listen to anything but hip-hop...peace

"shallow bullshit" lol geez...

what i get tired of...is rappers who eitha play to the radio too much (puffy, jigga) shit like that. now THAS bullshit. Also these damn dictionary rappers. i mean, talk about sum REAL shit. im sicka hearin sum rappers tryna use big ass wordz, repeatedly, jus to make they song rhyme (wu-tang for instance). i mean, they can be tight. but shit, too many times do u hear wordz that they eitha dont know the meaning of, or jus think that the listeners dont cus they dont use it right. or they jus change it, n make up a fukin word....to make it rhyme. that shit iz wack. gimme sum shit i can relate too...that shit is jus jibberish sumtimez.
