Jay z isn't the king right now... he's the commercial king, but as far as talent, De La Soul, and the roots both still have him, as far as i'm concerned.  Commercial it's jay though, if that's what he wants  ::)

Alright  i know alot of  people  dont wanna hear this  ....... but  Jay-z  is definitely the  King  of  New York .   And  very well the  King Of hiphop  right now .   The man is a legend . whether u like  it or not .  check out this   mathematics ......

jay-z  =  6 albums  =  2  were wack =   4  are classic IMO.

wu tang  =   4 albums  =  1 was wack = 1 was  IGHT  =  1 was classic  =  1  is  still to be determined  ( i dont think the new wu is gonna be a classic album .  its good tho)

nas =   5 albums  =  1 was classic =  1 was  IGHT  =  2 were STR8 WACK!   =   1 is still to be determined  ( i think it  has a
chance to be special ...... still gotta let it soak)

Need I  Say More ?

Jigga  has been the most consistent   artist  in the rap game for  some time now.  Even when  he dropped some  wack shit   (roc la familia  &  vol.3  s.carter)    He came right back with  some  off the  hook shit  to  make  people like me  jump back  on the  bandwagon .    i thought i was gonna  never like   jigga's  shit again after  i heard  Vol.3    .........   i didnt even cop   Roc La Familia .   but then he came   harder than ever  with  Blueprint .    usually when  rappers  fall off ........  thats exactly  how they  stay .  FELL OFF  , NOT COMIN BACK.

"Yall niggaz  better learn to respect the King"

I can agree with most of what you're saying.  At the current time, Jay-Z is the best in the game.  Will he be a year from now?  Who knows.  It's hard to find a rapper that is liked by cats that are liked by both the mainstream and the Backpacker crowd.  Jigga's my favorite MC nest to Eminem, not counting the ones that have passed on to the afterlife.  I knid of disagree with your ratings, but not by much.  I think Jigga's never dropped a wack album, but only two classics.

Reasonable Doubt: 5/5
Vol. 1: 4.0/5

Vol. 2: 3.5/5

Vol 3.: 4.0/5

Dyanasty:  4.5/5.  I gave the album a second listen, take away Bleek's solo and it's a great album.

Blueprint: 5/5.  Jay's best album since his first one.  It would take me all day to explain why I love this album, but I'll just use the same review I posted a link to before.  It practically tells the reason's why I like this album.

Benzino owns half of the source, they forfeit any journalistic credability.

Jay-Z might be the most popular cat in NY this week... but considering he got shitted on by about 80% of people who called in to say who won the battle... He's not the king of ny... and after Nas and Wu come out on the 18th he'll be even further from the spot.

Jay-Z will always sell records as long as he can continue to make commercially viable product... that doesnt make him the king of anything.... if it did then i guess Nelly was the king of hip-hop when Country Grammar was pushing 7 mill.

Nas has 3 dope albums from 1994-2001.
Jigga has 3 dope albums 1995-2001.

the difference is Jigga has more bricks, and he had to change up his style to blow up.

Common is 10 times the MC Jay-Z is... even Jay-Z had said he thinks Common is the best emcee.  Drop this King Of NY shit... there isn't one... when Biggie was blowing up so was Wu and Nas... The Source just perpetuated that bullshit through their magazine.

Nas:

Illmatic: 5/5
It Was Written: 4.5/5
The Firm: 3/5
I Am: 3/5
Nastradamus 1/5
Stillmatic: 4.5/5

Thats' how'd I'd rate his shit, alot of people hate on "It Was Written", saying he slacked of and shit, personally I love that LP, to me it's not far off the "Illmatic" level. As for "I Am" & "Nastradamus", they were'nt all that bad, that was just him trying hard to break into the mainstream, which isn't a bad thing but he made his real fans feel like he was selling out at that time. I think "Stillmatic" will gain him more respect, what i've heard so far is real shit, he just needs to equip his future material with the same ingredients from now on, keep it real.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

jay-z's ego has takin a big bashin over the last week with him bein voted the loser....hot97 officially declared Nas the winner in the battle.....that will obviously hurt jigga...gettin shitted on by the people in the city he suppoesdly WAS 'king of'.....
in a recent interview he was quiet bitter and still takin shots at nas
...so i doubt this 'beef' is over....

see, the problem with this is the famous "2nd place always wins" theory.  In a battle rap, who ever spits second ALWAYs wins, if the 2 emcees are any good.  Nas went second (in this round, lol) so he had more material to burn jay-z with.  Now, if jay strikes back AGAIN, he'll probably win, if you compare ether to jays' newest.  the last always wins.
