My View on  Jay-Z   and  Wu  , Nas   Etc...
« on: December 13, 2001, 02:36:36 PM »
Alright  i know alot of  people  dont wanna hear this  ....... but  Jay-z  is definitely the  King  of  New York .   And  very well the  King Of hiphop  right now .   The man is a legend . whether u like  it or not .  check out this   mathematics ......

jay-z  =  6 albums  =  2  were wack =   4  are classic IMO.

wu tang  =   4 albums  =  1 was wack = 1 was  IGHT  =  1 was classic  =  1  is  still to be determined  ( i dont think the new wu is gonna be a classic album .  its good tho)

nas =   5 albums  =  1 was classic =  1 was  IGHT  =  2 were STR8 WACK!   =   1 is still to be determined  ( i think it  has a
chance to be special ...... still gotta let it soak)

Need I  Say More ?

Jigga  has been the most consistent   artist  in the rap game for  some time now.  Even when  he dropped some  wack shit   (roc la familia  &  vol.3  s.carter)    He came right back with  some  off the  hook shit  to  make  people like me  jump back  on the  bandwagon .    i thought i was gonna  never like   jigga's  shit again after  i heard  Vol.3    .........   i didnt even cop   Roc La Familia .   but then he came   harder than ever  with  Blueprint .    usually when  rappers  fall off ........  thats exactly  how they  stay .  FELL OFF  , NOT COMIN BACK.

"Yall niggaz  better learn to respect the King"

Well... I've never really put Snoop up their with the "King of Rap" because I think it's unfair, but Snoop is busy man in the game... people give Jay the credit, which is cool, but check this out...

Snoop Has

5 Solo Albums = 1 Definite Classic - 4 Good Ones

Snoop Has put out 3 Major albums out in the Last Year...

Those are

Tha Last Meal
Eastsidaz - DNT
Bones

He also did work with... The Wash, Nate Dogg, Warren G, He did a song for Baby Boy, He made three movies in the last year... I mean he extends past the rap game... and seriously... this dogg is busy... Jay-Z busy?? LOL ... now I'm not giving Snoop the "king of rap" label... I'm just saying, Snoop is a busy busy man and as for Jay-Z ... He's not all that in my views... he's like the eastcoast Snoop in my opinion

if your going by quality and consistancy ghost face EASILY takes this...and i wouldn't even consider him the best

okay.... allow me to dead this in a hurry.

Reasonable Doubt: 4.5/5
In My Lifetime 1: 3.5/5
Volume 2: 2/5
Volume 3: 2/5
Dynasty: 1/5
Blueprint: 4/5
Unplugged: 4.5/5

Nas:

Illmatic: 5/5
It Was Written: 4.5/5
The Firm: 3/5
I Am: 3/5
Nastradamus 1/5
Stillmatic: 4.5/5

now... disregarding these two....

east coast artists better than Jay-Z include:

De La Soul:
3 Feet High...
De La Soul is Dead
Buhloone Mind State
Stakes Is High
AOI: Mosaic Thump
AOI: Bionix

not even one half-assed joint there....

A Tribe Called Quest:

Peoples Instinctive...
Low End Theory
Midnight Mauraders
Revisted Quest...
Beats Rhymes & Life
Love Movement
Anthology

only Love Movement could be considered anything less than a 4/5.

Public Enemy:
Yo Bumrush The Show
It Takes A Nation...
Fear of A Black Planet
Apocalypse 91
Muse-Sick N Hour Message
Greatest Misses
He Got Game
There's A Poison Goin On...

other than Greatest Misses which is average these are all tight albums.

Rakim:
Paid In Full
Follow The Leader
Let The Rhythm Hit Em
Dont Sweat The Technique
The 18th Letter- The Book Of Life
The Master

The Master was average... everything else was classic.

The Roots: considering these guys are the reason that Jigga's Unplugged album is off the hook....
Organix: 4/5
Do You Want More: 5/5
Illadelph halflife: 5/5
Things Fall Apart 4.5/5
The Roots Come Alive: 4.5/5

thats not including their two bangin EPs....

Pharoahe Monch:
Organized Konfusion
Stress: The Extinction Agenda
The Equinox
Internal Affairs

Ghostface:
Dope on all Wu Projects
Dope on Rae's first "solo"
Ironman
Supreme Clientele
Bulletproof Wallets

Gangstarr:
Step Into The Arena
No More Mr Nice Guy
Hard To Earn
Moment Of Truth
Full Clip
....

Run-Dmc
Raising Hell
Run-DMC
Tougher Than Leather
Back From Hell
Down With The King
Crown Royal *shudder*

one brick... the rest are a must have.

Erick Sermon:

Strictly Business
Unfinished Business
Business Never Personal
Business As Usual
No Pressure
Double Or Nothing
Erick Onasis
Def Squad
Music

LL Cool J: personally i hate his newer stuff... but he's been very successful on the commercial side.

BAD
Walking Like A Panther
14 Shots To The Dome
Mama Said Knock You Out
Mr Smith
Phenomenon
GOAT

KRS One

Criminal Minded
Blueprint Of Hip-Hop
Edutainment
Sex and Violence
Return Of The boom bap
KRS-One
I Got Next
Sneak Attack

i guess if we're talking about "club" songs.. or who's more popular amoung people who dont care about lyrics... then Jigga could compete with the elite.

I'm not saying Jigga is trash. he has some brilliant material and he has charisma out the ass... but to compare his body of work to any of the artists i've listed is silly.

im not  comparing  jay-z  to   rakim ,  krs ,  tribe ,   and public enemy .  that is  just ridiculous .    and nowhere do i  mention that  he   has   made better albums  than any of those artists.

"right now"   =  keyword

i think it was a bad idea to  make this into  a   rating albums  type of issue .     im just sayin  that   "right now"   who are the heavy hitters   in the  eastcoast ?   the ones that are makin the most noise .     Jay-z  , Nas , Wu , Mobb Deep .    And with all the beefin goin on  and people who are takin sides   i just wanted to   show  why  Jay-z  is the  king of the east.   at least i think  so .   everybody drops some weak shit  ........ but i think  jigga has  far  more   shiny moments than all the others.    The Wu  aint put    but  3  group albums now .   and  most of their members  have some  depressing albums .   Nas  drops    1 hott album every  10 year average  lol .    make that  2.     Mobb  is consistent  but they  dont seem to elevate  their game  with each passin album .   thats why they stayin neutral.

if the keyword is "right now" jay-z still isn't really the king of ny

commercially yeah maybe...even though dmx does outsell him

but overall talent wise? there's tons of peeps in NY that could/would exceed jay-z if they were given his possition

....if jay-z's album was produced by swizz beats and he had mystykal and nelly write his raps he'd still be considered king of NY by the source....
