For People Who Just Bought The New Warren G...
« on: December 12, 2001, 08:41:33 AM »
What are ya feelings on this album/first reactions?

I wasn't stunned, actually, I may like "I Want It All" better.  I love that album.  On ROTR, Warren's raps are below-average/average, and his beats are that G-Funk we all love, but nothing too special.  I'm glad Warren stayed true with only West coast collabos though.

Songs I like the best:

"Villiage Ghetto"
"Yo Sassy Ways"
"Young Locs Slow Down"
"Here Comes Another Hit"
"Something To Bounce To"

"Lookin At You" was an aright song, 3.75/5...I think Warren's raps were bad, and Toi's singing hook disrupted the whole song.  Dre's beat was tight with them tight moog sounds.

"Getto Villiage" is addicting, nice beat and I'm lovin that hook.

"Yo Sassy Ways" is ill.  Great beat, and Snoop comes with dope rhymes.  Warren does a good job too.

I doubt this is my album of the year though...Warren needs to work on his MC'n.

Admittedly, Warren's flow was a lot better on the original Regulate, but he comes off pretty nice on this album as well.  Besides, i hardly consider Warren a mc, he is more, as he says himself, a "conversator."  If i wanna hear someone rip the mic, i will go elsewhere, but if i wanna hear the most solidly produced and put together album this year, then i bump ROTR.

I want it all had nice joints, but it also had ruff ryders and crucial conflict.

this album is much better to me ... my #2 of the year behind Masta Ace.

I like this album 'cause it flows together nicely.  The production is consistent in it's dopeness.

After playin this album all the way through a bunch of times I've concluded this...

Warren G comes with weak lyrics overall as he lets singers like Butch Cassidy, Latoiya Williams, El DeBarge, Kokane and Stevie Wonder make you like the songs because of their hooks.  Admit it, most of the songs on the album you like cause of:  1.  The hook and 2.  The beat.  You loose focus on Warren's rapping as people like Butch Cassidy do the job to capture you with their hook.

This isn't album of the year...a 3.75/5.  I like "I Want It All" much better.

I don't know what you all are taliking about. This is the best album since Dr. Dre 2001. Warren is a little weak when rapping, but he has always been. There are NO bad songs on this whole album all of them are at least good, and songs like Speed Dreaming and This Gangsta Shit is Too Much are incredible. i first heard this album a couple of months ago when it was released. I remember I had just come home from a night of partying and it was 2:30 am, but I wasn't sleepy so I come on this board and someone says the new Warren G is out. I downloaded it and listned to the songs (besides the 7 from the promo wea had hear dearlier) on my headphones and I was blown away. I loved all of the new tracks more than the 7 from the promomo which were all very good. I'm not someone that is easily impressed but I gotta say I love this album, so hopefully this will grow on you, because in my oppinion it is much better than his last two albums.

LOL

Come on, at time Warren is just talking at a fast pace and rhymin very seldomly like on "Keepin It Strong."  "Lookin At You" is about a 3.75 to me...Warren has no flow on the beat an Toi fails for the first time at a hook...
:o

Still, this isn't a 1.5/5, like Vibe said.

Are you the same who consider Snoop Dogg a rapper?? Cause he litterally TALK on his tracks. And talking about lyrics.. i like the Warren G lyrics 100x better. Like Lil Jay said.. it's like an asshole, lol, but i think that Snoop's lyrics are just entertainment. Nothing connected with his real life. Like Downtown Assassins. Ok, maybe he better as a lyricist (no doubt!), but he talk shit. I mean.. in almost all his tracks. If you listen to mmmmmm.. i dont know.... his last album, THE LAST MEAL, what's the message of the whole album? I cant think about 1 single positive message. Just bitches, drugs, chronic, cripz and this shit. I'm not saying that this shit aint funny to hear, but.. Warren is totally different. Like Tha Source said, Warren is special cause he's trying to add a mositive message to a ghetto music. To bring fun and positive things to the ghettos. He reminds me Pac. A lil bit. Not Pac in general, but Pac when he rapped about positive things. I see Warren as a mature man. More mature than Snoop. And this is not a diss, it's just.... "an assole"! LOL! I've checked some sites with reviews of The Return Of The Regulator. Ok, i've seen always positive reviews. Like for "I Want It All". MTV said the album was A WONDERFUL ALBUM. He had a really good reviews at cdnow.com too! But then... when i listen to comments from other guys.. all i have heard is:

1) Regulate CD is classic, the rest is just garbage.
2) Warren is wack. Buy Nas, or Kurupt, etc..

About the first point, i totally disagree. Regulate CD is a good 30 mins CD. Yeah, 30 MINS!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's more an EP than a real CD. And it has a skit and 2 tracks without Warren too! I'm not saying it aint a classic CD (it is), but damn!!! Some guys dont even know this! They talk only cause they know the singles from the albums. Like "Regulate" is better than "Looking At You". To me the best Warren G album is I WANT IT ALL, but when i wrote it here, i remember a lot of guys replacing by saying that Warren is wack. He was good only with Regulate. That's totally BULLSHIT! A rapper aint good if he can say FUCK YOU in 300 ways, or can talk about GUNS like Rambo. Sometimes, to judge a whole CD, you gotta sit down and talk about THE MESSAGES of the CD!

If you agree with me, you'll love THE RETURN OF THE REGULATOR. And you'll love Warren G in general. As a person and as a rapper. And as a producer (i really think he's one of the greatest producer ever. Personally my fav one talking about slow tracks, g-funk tracks..). He got style. Soooooooooooooooooooo much style!

P.S.
To all the Snoop dickriders: I like Snoop too. He's ok to hear when u want some gangsta shit. So dont hate. RELAX!  ;)

I'm just glad went easy on the sampling for this album.  He did it heavily before, but I think on the new CD he only sampled one song, that Stevie Wonder track.

Still, Warren is preaching and more narrarating than rapping.

Warren G is my third favorite producer in hip-hop.
