It will be interesting to see what kind of push artists like Glasses, Lil Eazy and others on majors get once their albums drop. And although I know alot of people here do not like G-Unit, check for Young Hot Rod because last I checked he is west coast. I do not know how he will do once he drops but I hope he gets his just due. West West yall.

To me the west revolves around Dre.  Dre dropped The Chronic, the west was hot for 5 years.  Dre dropped 2001, the west was hot for 4 years.  Dre changes the game each time.  But now Dre doesn't fuck with just the west now.  He's nationwide now.  What the west needs is for an artist to get a push.  And it looks like no one is getting a push from the West that is not a "gimmick" rapper like The Game (hardcore gangsta image) and Guerilla Black (Biggie sound alike).

this what i mean.. the west is sterotyped with dre.. we shouldnt be placing the survival of the coast on one man.. true dre helped make, maintain and change the coast for many years but now its time we looked at the new producers and give them the chances & opportunities.

About 213's album
If it Warren's name was all over the tracks on the album y'all would call it a classic..

About Tha Dogg Pound/DoggyStyle Records
Snoop is a selfish nigga and  is afraid that people forget about him...thats why he's not capable of pushing his artists, and He doesnt have someone with sense to help him...I mean what kind of stupid fool...wouldnt release an album by Lady Of Rage or Soopafly? If Snoop wasnt focussed on his fame, he would push Lady Of Rage and bring her to the studio with Dre, Timbo and Primo

About The West Coast

There is not enough Executive producers in my opinion..thats what they need...everybody and their mama wants to have their own label but doesnt have the mind to handle most of it , The west needs more professional people that are ready to invest in the up and coming artists. The youngsters cant really count on Dr.Dre because he's basically a puppet to Interscope, they cant really count on Snoop because he's getting old and he's currently focussing on himself to not be history..so they need real Business Mens, to push their albums...

^^True, that thing you said about Snoop. I don't understand how he runs his label. What is the process of putting albums and artists out? And not only Rage and Soopa but Fred Wreck. I was surprised to see Soopa doing beats on CIA. That was about the only thing that sounded DP on the whole album.

I agree.  The west needs a hot up and coming label.  hot rapper/producer + a suge knight/jerry heller type person to get things done.

Yep. I guess Snoop wanted him to say broke instead of make a deal with the devil.  ;D  Kurupt said in a interview that Snoop called him and told him he would help him out and send over a limo or something to get him but he was not happy about him signing with Suge. The limo never came by. I want to know what kind of record deal did he have with Antra. There is no way he was VP of that company.

The trend right now seems to be no name rappers with marginal talent gangbanging on message boards, myspace, youtube and web site interviews and dissin rappers that have more talent than they do.

"There's a lot of mad rappers walking around Los Angeles..." -- DJ Quik

That line sums up what's happened out here. Cats out here have gotten lazy. They think they can pass over some bullshit on us and we'll run out and buy it just because they're west coast. They think they can throw up a myspace page, put out some bullshit mixtapes full of wack music and we'll pay $10 for it. Whatever happened to paying dues, getting your weight up in the underground and establish artistical and musical credibility? On top ofo that, rappers only want to diss other rappers and hate on those that have more talent or have more success than they do. Many rappers out here are straight up childish with their behaviour and the way they act for the most part is ignorant and shameful. Then they wonder why the industry ain't fuckin with us.

One thing that's obvious is that people have grown weary of the same old shit. People are tired about hearing about guns, gangbanging and all that bullshit. You look at what's hot and it's mostly party music.

I'm not saying that the west coast should do what the south is doing, but the west coast needs to get back to making quality music again. We can't be stuck in '93. It's 2006 and cats still want to rap about the same old shit that's been beaten to death for the last 18 years or so. Plus cats need to get smarter on the business tip. What has happened to Crooked I and Sly Boogy should not be happening, they should each have several albums out but they don't. If MC Eiht can release records every 6 months, why can't they? Cats are holding themselves back from success.

Also the fans need to get behind the new artists that are doing something new, that are being creative and bringing something to the table. We have to do our part by bigging up those that are being creative and different. We need to support the Zion I's and the Murs out there along with the Game's and Snoop's out there too. There is talent out there that isn't getting heard because they're not engaging in immature attention whoring tactics. If the music is good, they deserve support.
Being a LAKER is a privilige. Unfortunately some "Lakers" have forgotten that.

I definitely agree...and I'm not even saying that because I'm a producer. I think there are producers like Terrance Martin who are a lot better than I am, and they need to get at least some of the exposure and hype that Dre will get. People would rather hear a 6/10 or 7/10 Dre beat than a 9/10 or 10/10 beat. Dre is damn near 40 years old....we need some new blood!!

lol @ some of this shiit

warreng> 213s production

that album remains, the biggest disappointment ever

any of warrens albums production > 213 beats

Fuck that, the Missy Elliott beat on 213 was nice.  Even if it was a played out sample.

And that Quik quote "There's alot of mad rappers walking around Los Angeles" = The answer of this whole thread

Since the decade began....what are some interesting, funny, weird, suspect, ignorant, pointless, irrational, confusing things have you seen happen with West Coast rap? Whatever you list can be described by one of those terms...or it can be 2, 3, or even all of those terms.

Here's a couple that I can drop right now...

-Many people didn't even give 213's album much of a chance because of the fact that Warren didn't produce on it...although the production was as good or even better than every Warren produced album that wasn't his debut, "Regulate: The G-Funk era"

-While we've listed 35-40 different names of west coast rappers who were going to "bring the west back" "put the west back on the map" "get the west some exposure" or "be a factor in the music industry"....we've seen 50-60 unknown rappers from the south, with 30-40 being from Atlanta, to keep coming out nationwide and make major hits.

-From what I have seen and heard, 95% of ALL young upcoming rappers in L.A. have or have had something negative to say about The Game....many say he's an average rapper, and many talk about how he wasn't real in the streets. However, 110% of them would jump on the chance to do a track with him if they had the opportunity.

-2Pac's still released more albums with "new" material since 2000 than most of the upcoming, or once upcoming West Coast rappers have....including our favorites Sly Boogy, Crooked I, Ras Kass, and many others.

-2001 was clearly a high point for the west, and everybody thought we were on our way back after being successful that year. But we ended up fallin off and being even worst than we were in 97 and 98, which were seen as being our "dead years" after running things in 94, 95, and 96.

-Some people say that west coast rap is dead, and that we have to come with a different sound in order to sell to the masses. But everytime a west coast song gets pushed hard, it ends up being a major success...such as "Tell me when to go" "How we do" and "Drop it like it's hot". On the flip side....there have been MANY songs done by other regions that had a strong west coast feel that were successful....such as Lil Jon "Play no games", Jay-Z "Change the game", T.I. "My life", Trillville "Some cut", Akon "Locked up"....which really just shows that it doesn't matter how "west coast" a track sounds, because people end up likin it when it gets heard.

-While we are waiting for "Detox" and similar albums to drop.....we might end up missing out on the next "Chronic" or "Doggystyle".....which basically means that many fans are not willing to give something new a chance because they are only looking to hear from their favorite artists...and although there haven't been any new artists to drop albums at the level of "Chronic" and "Doggystyle"....there might be some artists or camps who could be in the same stage as C.I.A. was in the 80's, meaning they are young enough to end up becoming major factors in the game, and it may just take for them to find their own sound, image, and style....but most of us will end up putting all of these artists into the same "upcoming" "unknown/nobody" category and not even giving them a chance to develop.

you are on point. I agree with basically every point you made here.  Westcoast fans are afraid of change and imo that is what keeps dragging the west down.  Fans bash westcoast artists for doing the same things over and over again but whenever a westcoast artist tries something new the majority of the fans dont like that either.
