2006 - a year the west gettin respect?
« on: November 04, 2006, 12:36:06 PM »
I dont know, but i feel like the west coast have kept it very real, and been droppin some real solid ass hip-hop albums this year.

E-40 and Keak da sneak took hyphy to the mainstream

San Quinn - The Rock - not hyphy at all, the raw side of the bay,  a dope album start to finnish, one of the years best.

The Alkoholiks, The Dilated Peoples, Jurassic 5 - they all dropped solid albums!

Ice Cube - the veteran made a political statement, as angry as ever..

Xzibits album was good too..

The Game makin more noise than ever, and is proberly the most hyped artist of the year, (or atlest 2nd to Jay-Z)

and we should not forget Snoop and 2Pac comin too! two legends that always draws attention!

does anyone agree with me and got the same feelin?

to me 2005 was a year that our "stars" failed to make noise, (quik, mack 10, and warren g), but i think the west is on a equal level to the east and south in 2006!

The only reason the west is getting more of a reasonable amount of respect is Hyphy because Lil Jon is highly involved.

Ice Cubes album did surprisingly well i see that going platinum by next year but still thats a lil dissapointing for an artist like him.

Dogg Pound's "Cali Iz Active" had mainstream written all over it and turned out to be a solid album but did worse than i thought it would sales wise.

Im a big Jurrasic 5 fan but they aren't the same without Cut Chemist so their album turned out worse than i wanted it.

Dilated Peoples album was pretty good. Better than their last album but i definetly didn't see any big sales for them coming around which is ok i still enjoy their stuff.

Same with Xzibits album. Better than his last album but didn't see no big sales coming for him.

I'm expecting Games album to go gold or higher in the first week the way that shit is promoted now and his fan base.

I don't see the 2Pac album doing as good as his other posthumous releases.

by the way Snoops album is looking now i see that doing pretty good but it will take him some time to get a plaque.

Nah. The South has had the ONLY platinum album this year (T.I.'s King), and they've had some gold discs (Yung Joc). Outkast will go gold. Rick Ross is past gold as well. I give the west Cube & E-40 for sure (say what you want about E-40, but Gold isn't half bad). Game & Snoop will get multi-platinum plaques most likely (platinum at the very least). 2Pac can go gold.

it's definitely the best year since 2001, but that's an understatement

some big things happening, but overall I don't think generally people are interested in hip-hop all that much anymore

only things that got exposure were E-40, Ice Cube, Snoop and Game.... could be better

who gives a fuck tho, there's been some alright shit comin out lately so that's all that matters

we need all our "all stars" to rush the stage all at one time.

i like what Game was doing, bringin Clyde and Ya Boy under the same umbrella.  Think about Clyde on the hook, and Game and Ya Boy tear shit up...not to mention Clyde aint no simp when it comes to rappin.  that shit would be  :o

but nobody want help, everybody want to start thier own shit.  they wanna be able to say "i made it her on my own." - bitch niggaz.

Pick up 2 gats like Riley with a full 16 clip, on some sick shit like Lynch, while rippin a bitch's clit with beyonce's mouth on the tip of my dick.

The battle for highest selliing artist this year will be between Jay and Game. I think the west has done ok so far but with game and snoop coming up i can see them doing a lot better. Don't think snoop will go plat, depends how his singles do. Game will but not sure about him going multi...

my point with using the word "respect", was that i didnt look on the commercial sucsess and albums sold. I think the west has kept it very mature and real this year when it comes to the lyrics and music making. I can see a big change since last year.

The west is the most mature coast at the moment, and it desevers respect for keepin it real and not follow the stream!

I like what the west has so far and what is in store for the end of the year but there were a few mishaps here and there. Snoop REALLY dropped the ball with Cali Iz Active. As bad as that album was, he could have got more promotion and singles out of it. Same with Xzibit. I think we have alot of indie rappers out here that really do not have a platform to showcase their music to a big audience. I think we are really lacking a big west coast label. 2006 has really been the year of the vets on the west. Cube, 40 water, Snoop and whatever Game does. 2007 I want to see some new artists bust out on the scene.

I'ma be honest with ya.  Platinum has no meaning these days.

I agree that the west dropped some nice albums this year. I personally could care less about sales. I don't think anyone on this board would argue that Yung Joc is better than any of the west coast artists discussed. Just because his album went gold doesn't make him a good rapper. The south is popular right now, so if you're making their kind of music then you've got a good chance at selling some records.
