fuck yea, my uncle up in oregon let his chicken sleep in his closet.  every morning my uncle would let his back yard door be open(its hella safe out there) and the chicken would go outside, take a shit, fuck around outside and come back and sit in her box in the closet and lay the eggs.  shit was quite amazing.
