1st albums
« on: November 20, 2001, 12:02:57 AM »
People often say that a rappers best album is there first and it ussually is
I think that it's because they have spent at least 5-10 years including all their child hood to think up their ryhmes and once they are a steady rapper it is like every 2-3 years an album
what are your thoughts about this?

Many times this is true because artists are the most hungry because thet never tasted success before hand.  That's why you have the, 'sophmore slump.'  If an artist can pass that, then they basically pass the test.  That is one of the reasons Warren G is over looked, becuase "Take A Look Over My Shoulder" sold so bad.  He couldn't make that transistion from his first album...maybe cause he wasn't hungy enough to put out music?

Well...just because a Warren's album made a lot of money doesn't make it a good album, money has nothing to do with it.  It sold well because "Regulate" was a classic LP.  People assumed his 2nd album was going to be good.

money has nothing to do with it.

that's funny that you said that because on a track called "what's love got to do with it" on that very cd warren says that money has everything to do with it...just thought i'd bring that point up...oh and i also think that take a look is warren's second best cd by far, peace.

I would usually agree, but there is some exceptions...'Pac's first album was as good as his last one (while he was alive).  Most think that Ghost's 2nd was better than his first...

I disagree. Makaveli was much better than 2Pacalyspe Now.

And most people I talk to like Ironman better than Supreme Clientele, and I happen to agree with that consensus.

Anyway, most artists usually lose the hunger on the second or third album, which is often why debuts are better than sophmores. Some artists whos sophmores were better than their debuts:

Redman  [Dare Iz A Darkside is better than Whut Thee Album]

Mobb Deep [The Infamous is better than Juvenile Hell]

Public Enemy [It Takes...is better than Yo Bum Rush The Show]

Bone [E.1999 Eternal is better than Creepin On Ah Come Up]

Outkast [ATLiens is a little better than Southernplayalistic]

Beastie Boys [Pauls Boutique is better than License To Ill]

Tribe [Low End Theory is better than Peoples Instinctive Travels]

Of course, this is just my opinion.
