I was just wondering...Independent labels who have in-house producers. Would the rappers be charged by the in-house producer 2 purchase a beat?

Alot of times it depends on the situation. Me being an inhouse producer for Brazil Street Records, I hook niggas up with tracks for free, but say GMalone or Bishop Lamont come through, even though they extended Brazil St Family, they are in a position to break off a piece of change for a track. For family though, its usually free or discounted.

Thanks 4 da help, Focus. And lets say I do produce 4 a real indepentdent company, just for some rappers who are totally doing their thing serious, but indepently. How much should I charge? (I would start off just giving away some beats 4 free). Thanks in advance.

That all depends on the quality of the beat and the budget of the artist. You don't wanna overcharge but don't let them fuck you over either.

In House Producers would charge, i would imagine, at least get royalties + Studio time work....If not, what a waste of talent, and say your track becomes a hit, your left with nothing!!
People who sell their beats at flat rates (And Copyrights to their beats) = Idiots!

I'm talkin' people who put dey own shit 2gether, and sell it themselves. How much would an in-house producer charge for that shit? Cuz I ain't tryna get fucked over.

What do you mean serious? Like some Rapalot or Koch independent type ish? Basic unsigned underground artists I usually charge about 250-1000 depending on if its exclusive or not, also include royalties. Add about another zero onto that number for signed/well known acts. It all depends on what YOU think you can get away with charging though. Always make contracts also, for every beat you hand out, even if you're giving it to an artist on the same label as you, its best to make a contract to settle royalties and whatnot so you're guarrenteed some kickback for your work should they make anything off the track. Are you trying to start your own Production company or just trying to hook up with an independent label? If its the prior I wouldnt really suggest it until you start making connects in the industry.

Shit. I mean serious, like they ain't just making tracks for the sake of it, or for fun, trying to make money off it. I'm gonna work with people that are really on the come up. I'm talking making your own tracks, printing that shit up by yaself, and selling it str8 out da trunk. Make a myspace page/website and promote it through that stuff. Shit like that. Sorry for my ignorance on the subject
