The Wash vs. Aftermath Presents vs. The Firm
« on: November 22, 2001, 05:54:44 PM »
If you thought Aftermath Presents and the Firm were flops, think again.  Those albums went platinum.  The Wash is struggling to go gold.  It's down to 41 on the Billboard charts now.  And in my opinion the Wash is the worst out of the three.

Aftermath Presents- 4.25-  This album was underated.  East Coast Killa/West Coast Killa is a classic joint, and marks a historical event in hip-hop when Dre took a stand against the East Coast West Coast fued. The video was incredible.  It is a crime punishable by death that this video wasn't rotational on MTV.  Someone fucked up.  And there were about 7 other hot joints on the album. Mel-Man's joint was hot, King Tee's joint, some tight R@B shit, much better than the R@B on the Wash.....

The Firm- 4- Another Underated album.  "Phone Tap" is a classic joint.  The track Canibus appears on is blazing.  This album had a whole sound and feel to it, that was like no other

The Wash- 3.75-  Sure the songs are tight, and the beats are tight.  But it is shallow, ignorant, and hollow.  I gained nothing from listening to this album.

*****Also I noticed a glitch in the Billboard charts.  I keep hearing that DMX is the only artist to release two number one albums in one year.  But 2pac released two number ones back in 96.  FYI.****

The Wash is a soundtrack.  It's purpose isn't to be a real deep album.  It is to showcase music from the movie.  You can't expect it to be a classic album.

Sometimes I don't understand you... you're posts about school and now this... so the wash is down to spot #41....
well... looks like the world is coming down to an end... I could care less if it's at #41... I like the soundtrack... I bought it and I'm glad I have it... that's all that matters... it doesn't need commercial success... so there

Excellent point.  Really terrible point by Infinite59.  The Wash is an album supporting a movie featuring many artists.  The Aftermath was an album to build up a record label and the Firm is an actual group album.  Regardless The Wash is a tight soundtrack and this thread needs to be locked up due to Infinites ignorance.  Thanks in advance.

mellow said that if it wasnt for 9-11 we would of had a couple more dre an snoop tracks,  i think this equal to dre presents tha aftermath,  they were both highly anticipated but didnt live up to expectations but are still good solid albums but people hated on it b/c of that,  kinda like snoop when he droped tha doggfather an nas - it was written,  these are very good albums but due to extremely high expectations people considered them failures

Ya'll are making excuses.  I'm sure Dre is unhappy about it.  Murder Was the Case was far better, and so was Above the Rim.  The Aftermath Presents album was a showcase of talent just like The Wash is.  That's why I compared the two.  Peace.

i agree with suga foot that the wash is a soundtrack and its not going 2 be a classic.  also like big jake said that it was pushed up about half a year.  plus sales doesnt show how good the album really is.  it could have sold 10 copies but still is fuckin dope.  IMO

Peace

Ya'll missed the point of my thread.  I think the soundtrack is good as well.  But I wanted people to compare it to Aftermath Presents and The Firm album.  But I guess I was asking too much because most of ya'll don't want to compare a soundtrack to anything else.  Even though Aftermath Presents was a compilation, and the Firm had many different artists (guests) and producers.  Peace.

Chill y'all.

People like us who keep getting up to date info on albums like "The Wash" are disapointed cause we thought there would be more Dre/Snoop collabos.  Peeps who didn't expect that prolly think it's still a pretty dope soundtrack.  Our expectations were ran a lil too high.  It's still a dope sdtk.

"The Aftermath" was good.  It was one big fucking demo tape, Dre was only involved in half of that shit.

"The Firm" could have been waaay tighter...just look @ "Phone Tap."

ok wash has

on the blvd
bad intentions
str8 westcoast
benefit of the doubt
holla
the wash

those 6 joints are better than almost anything on aftermath presents except maybe east coast west coast, and been there done that

then on top of that there is
bubba sparxx song which i actually like
the bilal song kills any r n b on aftermeth presents
toi everyday is a hot r n b song
and joe beast NO is a corny ass name but this shit is much better than the no name shit on presents
also the Yero song and Xzibit songs are both pretty good

bottomline........... the wash has 6 blazing tracks that all could be singles... aftermath presents definitely does not have the same at all so i dont get why u sayin that shit is 4.25   if aftermath presents is 4.25 then chronic and doggystle are like 10s.... plus on top of there being 6 bangers there are a bunch of good songs to back them up.... some joints str8 suck on this album but there are 6 bangers most albums dont have that
