I think that's actually from an old Disney cartoon and now ride (Splash Mountain). The cartoon was something like "The tales of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear". Briar Patch is I guess the same thing as "thicket", a looks like a bunch of rose thorn bushes intertwined, kinda like tumbleweed but with thorns all over them.

In the cartoon, Brer Rabbit was raised in the briar patch and when he grows up, Fox and Bear capture him. They can't decide how to kill him so Brer Rabbit tells him " do anything to me, just don't throw me in the briar patch!" SO, they do...he gets away..and then we get a Devin song.

Feel like a old grandfather tellin stories to you youngsters and shit.. haha.
