Hi-C interview
« on: December 25, 2006, 10:31:15 AM »
Whuts Poppin-this is a interview We did with Hi-C on my site
Merry X-mas
Bigg Steele

One on One: First off, I wanna thank you for taking the time out to sit down and chop it up with us. What's going on new in the world of Hi-C?

Hi-C: Me, Bigg Steele & DJ Coke-e just came off a sold out tour in Japan. It was a beautiful experience, and I was suprised at the reception that I recieved.

One on One: That's really dope! Was That your first time in Japan?

Hi-C: Yes, They have been trying to get me out there for years, but a former "Friend" would never relay the message

One on One: Care to elaborate?

Hi-C: nah, he know's who he is

One on One: Its all gravy. So tell me, You dropped the "Hi-Life Hustle" a few years ago, a bangin CD IMO, as well as many other's, Were you pleased with the results?

Hi-C: To be honest, I was very upset with the way they handled my promo. I had just came off of having a top 20 radio record, "Let me know" and they pretty much dropped the ball. The bootleggin situation didnt help either

One on One: Who do you mean when you say "they"?

Hi-C: Rap-A-Lot records

One on One: Ok, I see you also mentioned "Bootlegging" What do you think about the current situation with downloading?

Hi-C: I think on one token, the internet can be a good tool to expose artist to the public. I dont mind a free preview, but the majority of people will get the album and never go make a legitimate purchase. i think the economy is just really bad now, Gas is sky high, and people just aint got the chips to pay 16-17 dollars for a album. That's why Im going to stay independent so I can get the public my music at a decent price and make a bigger profit margin. the middle man is killing the game right now.

One on One: Thats a good concept, How are you gonna release your new music? and Im pretty sure the fans wanna know, is somn new on the horizon?

Hi-C: yeah, Im working on my website now where people will be able to download my music on a song by song basis and what not, or download the whole album. I own my whole catalog, so Im gonna get it poppin like that.
I got somn new coming soon, I cant lie, i dont know when its coming, but it's coming.

One On One: any production from Quik?

Hi-C: No. I produced 80-90% of my past material, so Ill be doing all my own production. Quik is a talented producer, but he's doing him, So Im doing me.

One On One: So no reunion?

Hi-C: We all grew up together, but it comes a point where certain things are said, and certain lines are crossed, so to be honest Imma always have love for Dave (DJ Quik) but at this moment NO! as far as the future, who know's?

One On One: I feel you. man, I thank you for sittin in with us, any last words?

Hi-C: Thanks for having me, and to all my fans, be on the lookout for Hi-Lifehustler.com. Im dropping joint yall aint never heard! classics that me , Quik and the whole camp never released.

One On One: Thats whats up! Peace!

Hi-C: Later

Fuck yeah, great to hear from Hi-C.  The Hi-Life Hustle was one of the best West Coast albums released in the last few years, just straight up West Coast feel good music.  I'm really looking forward to that unreleased shit :o :o.  It sucks that him and Quik aren't gonna collaborate any more, but I think of anyone in the camp, Hi-C will make it on his own cuz the production he does by himself is awesome.

"Hi-Life Hustle" was pure garbage and Crawf hasn't really impressed me on a solo tip since he dropped "Skanless" with Tony A..Would be interested in hearing the material that wasn't released though....Any artist that came out from the umbrella of Dj Quik with maybe the exception of Suga Free, needs to swallow thier pride and have Quik if not producing, at least have him included for the overseeing & direction of their future projects...

LOL...U Mad? Fag
Fuck that fake ass crip Crip2nite.  Gets on my nerves how some people on these forums

Pure garbage?  I really don't see that at all man.  That album was banging from top to bottom, and his production was so good on some tracks I thought it was Quik doing it.  And Suga Free proved with Just Add Water that he can't make a real good album without Quik, that album had a few great tracks on it, but it was all over the place and too generic.

ya haha what the fuck, pure garbage?

I still play tracks off that, there wasn't really a bad one on that album

and I agree with you EDizzle, Suga Free's album sucked except for a few, mainly because Quik was missing

Hi-C can do it himself and do it pretty well at that, so whatever he comes out with should be good

too bad that whole Rhythm-al-ism crew split up...

^^^Yeah, believe it or not, the Japanese are very very much into Westcoast shit- The tripped out part is that was Crawfs first time going, as well as mine and we had no idea they would react like they did, they even get Power 106 in Japan through subscription. It was a real dope experience, so yeah, dude does have a nice sized fanbase out there. Im gonna put the video up on my website soon as these dudes shoot me the footage
