Should I buy the Wii??
« on: December 26, 2006, 08:17:18 AM »
My Xbox 360 has been broken (Ring of Death) since late August now and I still have to call the repair center to get it fixed. In the meantime though I just got my Xmas bonus and I'm thinking of getting the Wii because I saw some stuff on TV and from what I've seen I especially like Red Steel. Is this game any good and is it worth buying the Wii on the strenght of this game and is it safe to say more games like this (action/first person shooting) will be coming out next year?

I'm definitely not into Nintendo's own stuff like Mario or Zelda but I'm curious what other games are lined up. I already have RE4 on the Gamecube and I can't wait for RE5 but that one is also coming out on the 360. Also I gather Nintendo's latest console does NOT feature digital 5.1 surround sound?

Some info please...

Thanx.

RE5 won't arrive until 2008, but there's Umbrella Chronicles on the Wii next year.

i'd play red steel before i get one.. and i'm still on the fence about that game.. i played a tiny bit yesterday.. not overly impressed with it from the gate.. but i've only given it 30 mins

zelda is brilliant.. don't follow whatever stereotype of what you think it is.. but find out for yourself.. its quite different than i expected in some ways.. its more like tomb raider in some respects.. (i'm talking about the dungeons)..

zelda is good once you get to the first dungeon.. its a bit cutesy and geared towards getting you used to the controls before that.. its great in zelda that once you've been somewhere you can always go there

zelda has always been like that

like in ocarina of time

you couldnt fully understand how good the game was until u did the water temple

and then there was the spirit temple with the two witches

awesome

To be completely honest, as of right now I couldn't recommend the Wii to anyone. There just aren't any good games beyond Zelda. Once you finsih Zelda it will be useless for a few months. Red Steel is horrible. It'd be alright if the game was $20 or so, but itdefinately isn't worth $50. By the summer the wii should have a couple more good games, but until then don't buy one expecting to have anything to play on it.

Wii sports=boring after you play it couple times=nobody wants to play anymore=you lose all you friends because they hate your wii=failure

Personally, I don't think you'd be happy with the system.  If you don't like Nintendo's 1st party stuff, you likely won't like anything for the system because the 1st party stuff is by far the best shit you can get for it.  Also, if you're concerned that they don't have 5.1 audio, then that means that things like 5.1 audio are important to you, as will other technologically advanced aspects of gaming consoles, all of which the wii will fall short on.  So I personally think you would be better off getting your 360 fixed.
