My Sega 16bit from at least 12 years ago is still fucking working. I just found it the other day, and hooked it up for my little brother. And the motherfucker was still working. You dont see that anymore with PS or Xbox.

Pretty much all cartridge based systems will last forever if you take care of them because there are no moving parts inside like current consoles. I guess the one exception to that would be the NES because the spring inside wears out after a while, but that can be fixed.

I didnt know that. But its still gangsta, playing on a console you had for a very long time.

That's not gangsta >_> My old orignal Gameboy still works, if i busted it out it wouldn't make me gangsta, it's just nostalgic.

Hey wait, if i play a virtual console game that's ancient, would that make you gangsta? >_>

Feel lucky, honestly.

I tried to hook up my SNES some years ago and when I did it didn´t work. Now there was just a cable not working (I think it was the power supply) and I know there are ways to get around that but I was so pumped to play the old SNES games and when it didn´t work I straight put it back in the cellar. I got all the games on emulator but it´s just not the same to whoop a little ass in SF2 Turbo in front of your tv with the original controller.

Man, thinking about this shit I could still choke myself over the fact that I sold my NES with like 20 games, the zapper and the Advantage joystick.

I sell old systems all day long at the flea market on the weekend. I buy them at pawn shops and flea markets and yard sales, and here's what I've found.

- The original NES is almost indestructible, except for the blinking problem. If you clean the pin connector inside it works fine. Also you have to keep the games (and all cartridge games on any system) clean for it to work. I've had 1 spring broken out of probably 400 that I've bought.

- The SNES is also indestructible, usually. I'm talking about just the console, the power cords go out on them a lot but you can buy a new one for a few bucks. The actual system though will work whenever you want... I had one I bought with a 6 inch hole on the side of it, fucker still worked fine.

- Genesis? eh... 90% of them still work but still 10% is a lot of broken systems. I've got 30 broken Genesis systems I've collected over the years.

- I've never seen a sega master system that didn't work. They're indestructible.

- CD based systems are much less reliable, especially the ps2 and ps1. Usually they just won't read the discs anymore. I'd say 30% of the playstations I run into don't work, and probably 50% of teh ps2's (probably because nobody would sell a ps2 if it was still working, lol)

- Xbox systems are bad about having dead power supplies inside of them.

- Gamecubes are hit and miss, they stop reading discs when they break too, but I've only had a few of them so I don't know what the ratio is.

On handhelds, and again you're going to think I'm being a fanboy, the Sega Game Gear is *ALWAYS* broken. Out of 10, you might get 2 that work. Gameboys ALWAYS work. Out of 10, you will get 10 that work in various states of disarray, I am not shitting you, the problem with a gameboy is if it's broke, the button is worn out. I know you think I'm being funny, but I'm dead serious. If a game gear's broke, it's because the cpu is fried, if a gameboy is broke, it's because the button doesn't work anymore. LOL.

OH, and the same for NES, SNES, and genesis controllers. People wear them out all the time. I sell more NES and PS1 games than games for any other system, but I never can get good n64 games so I think they would sell well if I had good games in stock.

The N64 is also an indestructible system. I've never seen 1 that didn't work, and I've had probably 100 of them, maybe more. The power cord was dead on 1, and the controllers wear out a lot. The little stick breaks inside so you can't use the analog anymore. That's a bad problem with these because you can't get cheap replacement controllers.
