you can't always get around it...you have to give your social to get a credit card, phone, car, apartment, anything...its unavoidable. But you should never use it for anything other than stuff like that...

apparently from what i was reading somebody can actually steal your identity just by knowing your name and address...i don't really understand how...but i guess it happens
