X-Box 360 Wins Holiday Battles
« on: January 02, 2007, 05:55:12 PM »
January 2, 2007 - According to preliminary NPD data, the Xbox 360 was the best-selling console during the holiday season in the U.S. CNBC is reporting that Americans picked up two million units of Microsoft's system during the period.

But Nintendo was not far behind. In spite of limited availability, the Wii sold 1.8 million units from its launch until December 25. Sony only moved approximately 750,000 units of the PlayStation 3, due to manufacturing problems and decreased demand. Over the holidays, IGN repeatedly found PS3s available at retailers while no Wiis were in sight. The price of a PS3 on eBay has also dropped to around its MSRP, while the Wii is still selling for over twice its retail price.

NPD expects to release complete sales data for the holiday season later this month

Dunno why it wouldn't be true, the xbox 360 has a lot of great games and there are plenty out there for people to get.

I imagine the 360 probably did sell more, there were stacks and stacks of them, and everytime somebody went somewhere for a ps3 or a wii it would be really tempting to get a 360 instead if they were sold out of the other.... especially if it were for a gift.  Plus, there's stacks of great 360 games out already.

Yeah that is a point, if the Wii was sold out odds are the next best thing to turn to is the 360 which would make a happy present, if not better than before. Since they were in stock too i guess it was more reliable to purchase. I don't trust some console data business sometimes, every now and again it sounds toooo farfecth'd so i've gotta keep my tabs.

true but still pretty good for a company that was overshadowed by 2 new systems with all kinds of hype this Christmas.  But if you ask me Microsoft made a great decision to release 360 last November because they knew by the time Wii and PS3 were released 360 would have so many great games on the console.  I must have played with 10 dudes on GOW online who said they got their 360s for Christmas.

I don't believe the ps2 outsold the 360, but I haven't seen concrete numbers.

I predict the Wii will outsell both other systems by next Christmas.  That means the Wii will catch and surpass what the 360 has sold (10 million systems), and will also still be ahead of the ps3 in the race.

That doesn't mean I think the Wii will be the #1 system for the entire generation, but I believe at Christmas next year it will be on top of the mountain.
