My TOP 5 albums of 2006
« on: January 02, 2007, 11:28:26 PM »
Hey whats up everyone, I usually don't post too often, but i've been here for a long ass time,
and quit honestly, i've been slightly dissapointed in peoples top albums of 2006 so I thought I'd share mt top 5 albums for 2006
Now, you may disagree, but if you take a good listen to these albums, then you'll see what I'm talking about, just try not to judge an album, especially if you haven't even heard it and are just ASSUMING whether it is good or bad,
at the end, its all about taste, and everyones got different likes and dislikes
here goes:

5. Busta Rhymes - The Big Bang

Busta Rhymes kinda chagned his high energy style in this album but still had a solid effort. Hes on aftermath and had 5 Dr. Dre Tracks. His first track "get you some" just grabs yours attention, because of the catchy and creative beat,  Of Course you got a club banger "touch it" which also has a creative and catchy beat.  One of my favorite songs here is "Dont Get Carried Away" Feat. Nas.  Nas rips it up on the song.  A few people featured on the album are Rick James and Stevie Wonder which show a different side to Busta.  Overall, a solid album.

4. The Game - Doctor's Advocate

This was sad to be one of the most anticipated albums of the year.  Was it a classic like eeveryone was expecting? Nope (well to me personally),But the album sure was a solid effort.  Even with the absence of Dr. Dre, The Game still delivered a good album with some newer and dope songs.  Lyrically, he stepped up his game compared to "The Documentary."  Some of my favorite songs were "Compton", "remedy" "wouldn't get far"...To me Jelly Roll provided a catchy westcoast beat.  He also got Nas on the last song, which showed that he attempted a good artist line up.  He does mention Dr. Dre a bit too much, but still has some good music to bump to.

3. The Roots - Game Theory

This album was also pretty slept on and provided us with some really good tracks. One of my other favorite hip hop songs of the year appears here.  Its a deep and excellent song and a tribute to J. Dilla (RIP), "Can't Stop This" to me is just such a deep and inspiring track.  THe album has some songs that you can skip through, but overall provides you with good quality hip hop.  "Don't Feel RIght" is also another track that stands out, good quality album

2. Nas - Hip Hop Is Dead

To me this album was just pretty dope in general.  Even though there are some fillers on the albu, some of the song just stand out and show that Nas still has it.  The title of the album sparked some controversy, but in reality, for the most part, hes absolutley correct. For the most part, Hip Hop is dead.  One of the most creative songs here is "who killed it", which had a great story behind it and if you know your hip hop, makes it a good listen, I personally enjoyed the Kanye West tracks on here as well and the single "hip hop is dead" has great production from Will I. Am,.

1. Hi-Tek - Hi-Teknology Vol. 2: The Chip

To me personally, this was the most slept on album of the year as well
If you take a listen to it, there are some amazing songs on here, the whole entire album is just smooth and you can pretty much listen to ALL of it without really skipping any tracks, maybe theres one track I'm not feeling too much there, plus hes got a great variety of artists such as: Busta Rhymes, Talib Kweli, Common, Nas, The Game, Ghostface Killah, Kurupt
One of the best songs on here is "music for life", Listen to it, beat is amazing and one of my favorite songs of 2006 as well....
THe song with Kurupt is a great standout song too because Kurupt actually raps really dope here, which is a surprise because mof his raps lately have just been "fuck a bitch, fuck that...etc..."
I'll try and maybe post this album up to download, but I suggest that its worth the purchase

I agree with the thread starter: finally a good top list. I wouldn't have put Hi-Tek's anywhere near #1 but I see where you're coming from. The Roots definately deserve their spot; they were on some decent creative shit once again. And personally I feel like Snoop's album doesn't deserve to be mentioned anywhere near a top10... It had some bangers, but the album was 80% filler material. How are you going to call that the #1 album of the year? Then again, it's all opinions; should be respected nonetheless.
