Kurupt's SPACE BOOGIE, with On Site, Gangstas. Kurupt The Streets Iz A Mutha, Daz RAW, Tha Eastsidaz 1st album! Dr Dre 2001, Snoop Dogg's Last Meal! Bad Azz 1st 2 albums. Shade Sheist and Nate Dogg dropped Where I Wanna Be. The music was WEST WEST and non commercial, just great music... I used to come online and read DPGC2000.net, really enjoying the music, DJ Quik and Mausberg were really dropping heat. Tha Eastsidaz movie was released in around 2000? I remember gettin the video, and was so hyped when I opened it in the mail.

Nowadays I am not even interested in artists other than The Game, Ice Cube and Dr Dre. The music is just weak. I downloaded Goldie Loc's albums, Daz's albums, DPG albums, Bad Azz albums and all of them sound very poor and didnt interest me at all.

Why?

Damn good question.

Personally i think i think its all down to the fact that a lot of these artists have got comfortable. Some of them have been rapping for 15 years, the hunger has gone, there is only so many times you can rap about the same subjects without it getting slightly repetative. I wouldnt say they need to re invent themselves but they need to take a bit more time in making every track they make the best. A little more quality control. The problem is they have a loyal fan base and they know they can put out music and sell a certain amount of units, regardless.

I know people here hate Em, but Eminem was also instrumental at that time. But I agree with most of what you're saying...

That goes to show when the West Coast works together - great things happen. I loved that 99-2002 era.

^^ yeah man. Aftermath needs another '99-'00. Like when TSSLP droped, followed by "2001" and then "TMMLP". Hopefully they'll do that again with Bishop's debut, DETOX and Em's next LP.

Yeah hopefully, but to be honest I'm not believing it anymore!!! There won't be another chronic or 2001 era!!! that's just logical.

But the only thing I hope is that atleast weather Bishop or Dre will have a CLASSIC record!!!! He had enough time now

Quadruple OG

This is how much of an impact 2pac's death and Suge going to jail had, because if neither happened, we wouldn't be overhyping average and above average albums and pronouncing them to be modern day classics.  You're out of your mind if you think the artists Snoop had for the OG Doggystyle Records including LBC Crew (Bad Azz and Techniec for all those youngn's), Lil' Style, Swoop G, Tray Deee, Jay Money, etc. were not as talented the shit that came out in 99-01.  That's whta bothers me about west coast rap fans because in general, we are so desperate to get back to 94-96 levels that every album that dropped during that time was a hip-hop classic by many people on this board (the board OG's will remember the DR/DPG rivalry threads).  I remember people hyping up a fucking Doggy's Angels album.  Maybe its a testament to how shitty music is today, but the majority of those albums in 98-01 are extremely overrated in hind sight.

The truth is, now that time has passed, only a handfull of abums have actual replay value today.  In fact, certain albums that have dropped within the past couple years shit on those y'all praise as classics.  If "The Doctor's Advocate" dropped in 1999, people on this board would rank it as the greatest hip-hop album of all time.  Ice Cube's "Laugh Now, Cry Later" shits on War and Peace Vol. 2, which came out in that time period.  Shit, if the album sounds as good as the snippets that's been leaked, "Dogg Chit" would eclipse "Dillinger and Young Gotti".

For the Record, here are the albums that IMO have actual replay value in 2007 from that 98-01 time frame:

Dr. Dre - 2001 (a classic)
Soopafly - Like it or not (same album as the one Daz put out, easily the best DPG related album from that era)
Daz - Raw (best Daz solo album by far)
Daz - Retaliation, Revenge and Get Back (good album)
Kurupt - Streetz iz a mutha (good album, not a classic that many consider it to be)
DPG - Dillinger and Young Gotti

Man the 99-01 period was great....

This was before everyone started beefing.........Bad Azz, Kurupt, Xzibit, Tha eastsidaz, Jay Felony, Suga Free, Kokane....I mean all the dopest cats from the West were all making great music......

Now it's slowly comeing back to the fold once more, and again, I will say it again, 07 will be a good year for DPGC and related artists.......Bad Azz back in the fold as of late, Jayo Felony cool again, Dogg pound dropping some dope shit once more, Western Union, Warzone, Kurupt solo with Fredwreck all over it, Soopafly......Shit Im gonna enjoy 07!

At the ed of he day. these artists (dpg. related artists) have had there day. Dont get me wrong, i used to be hardcore fan but ive realised that its time for new blood. Ive listened to hip hop for 16 yrs ,ever since i was six. Time for new blood, thats the only way hip hop will survive.
