Jack Kerouac' "On the Road"-novel, my favorite book, road trips from the east to west coast an back in the early 50s and late 40s.1957
William Burroughs "Naked Lunch"-experimental cut up novel, hilarious surreal yet very american and urban shit.1959
Allen Ginsberg "Howl"-collection of poems, amazing american jazz poetry.1956

they were like the first american literature published with profanity, artistic ass dudes traveling the country sexin' and druggin', hitting up jazz clubs and poetry readings and shit. they were like the intellectual predecessors of the hippie generation.

Jack Kerouac is one of my favorite authors. The Dharma Bums is a great book too.

the dharma bums is as well written as OTR but I just prefer OTR cause it's so hippie. dharma bums is crazy with those orgy scenes. those wined up asian dudes and the poetry readings sounded like the shit though.

Kerouac's "On the Road" is a good place to start. it's a standard size 300 page novel. good shit.

Yeah if you're going to start reading Kerouac read 'On The Road'.
