Report: Sprewell defied police in standoffWHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Jan. 31 (UPI) -- A police report recently revealed that the former NBA player Latrell Sprewell engaged in an unusual standoff with officers last month at his New York home. The report, which was released Tuesday, said that on Dec. 11, the former New York Knicks player held police at bay at his home in Westchester County for nearly an hour and a half, The New York Times reported. Police were investigating a report that Sprewell allegedly attacked his longtime girlfriend and mother of four of his children, Candace Cabbil, when the standoff began. As police stood outside Sprewell's $3 million home, Sprewell professed his innocence and reluctance to surrender by shouting out the window at officers. "He was acting crazy. The man just wouldn't come out of the house," one of the officers said. Cabbil had reportedly been planning to serve Sprewell with a restraining order prior to the incident and has since filed a $200 million abuse lawsuit against Sprewell. The Times said that the incident ended without any injuries after Cabbil let police into the home.
