I mean if Jayz who ahd mad promotion behind him is "only" at 1.3 plat right now and Justin Timberlake with 2 megahits at "only" 2.3 mil, is it even possible to go like 5X plat like they used to.

Becuase theres a lot of big names coming out soon like Timbo, 50, Will.I.Am, probably Dre.... do you think anyone can even reach those high numbers again ?

I think it remains to be seen whether Will.I.Am and Timbo qualify as "big name" solo acts. Both have released solo albums in the past that under-performed, all things considered, although to be fair Will.I.Am's release was pre-Peas explosion. Nonetheless, I don't expect either release to go beyond double platinum and wouldn't be surprised if both stalled a little over Plat.

50 is kind of hard to tell. I thought his fan-base had fallen dramtically after "Get Rich..." and, sure it sold a fair bet less than his debut, but "The Massacre" was still a great success. I still think 50 has lost a few more fans since then, but has he really lost a million? I have my doubts.

If anyone here can do huge numbers, it's Dre. He's ingeniously crafted this whole mysterious vibe around "Detox" by keeping leaked info to a minimum, where he's got a whole load of non-Hip-Hop heads intrigued too. Plus, people know his track record. Two solos. Two classics. I think of the four, Dre will easily outsell (read: by "easily" I'm guessing by a good million, possibly plus, lead) the other names mentioned.

i´d put my money on Dre coz the hype for his releases are outta this world. i think a lot of peeps forget that The Chronic 2001 actually outsold GRODT. and his albums don´t have the huge first week sales but they stay on the charts for a long time. and since Detox is gonna be his last album you know there´s gonna be mad hype surrounding it especially if he drops something like Still D.R.E. coz that shit made people act like crackheads back in 99.

Is Dre still the big name he used to be? I personally don't think so. We don't hear a lot from him at all, but other than with his previous solo releases, this time around the things we've heard from him building up the anticipation for the album aren't nearly as convincing. Yeah, he'll go double platinum perhaps, but I just don't see Detox turning into an instant unquestionable classic.

But as for Will-I-Am or Timbaland creating a boundaries-crossing classic? There's not a doubt on my mind Timbaland will fail. He has got them easy listening main stream audience tracks, but his music won't stick. He makes music for the momentum.

Will-I-Am is the one with the most potential for me, basically because you'll never know what he might knock out next. I've heard some amazing stuff from him on that Freedom Writers soundtrack... He's clearly capable of doing something big, but will he? He might suffer from his reputation, being the producer for Fergie's solo stuff and the Black Eyed Peas...

So don't get your hopes up yet. Your favorite hip-hop hero is going to have a hard time trying to achieve his goals.

Justin is at 2.6 thanks to Timbo, if his album was released 3 or 4 years ago he probably would be at least 4x Plat by now, I think the days of Diamond albums and 5 and 6 times plat days are over, If you go 2x Plat these days that is a hell of an accomplishment, I think the Timbo album and the Dre album will both probably go 2x plat

true, but his album still ain't done selling tho, I think he'll eventually get to around 4x plat with another single, his last one sold 3.5

the days of going 5x or 6x platinum is definitely not over, 50 did it with in the club...  i think it comes down to your body of work, if you put out a banger, it will show with the numbers, if u put out something OK, it wont sell, cuz the masses want fire.  Bottom line, no1 has came with fire, in the club went plat. that quick cuz the single was on the radio for like 6 months prior to being released, and 50 had a huge buzz, if it wasn't for those two things he would have gone 2x plat. max.  with that said, if you put out a good cd with great production, and straight fire, you will sell to the masses.  hopefully dre will giv us a banger.

will.i.am will probably not go more than double plat....i have a feeling his album will be a disappointment too...mostly because i think that BEP is fuckin weak...and his poppy as production lately has been shit...its sad to me that its the same will.i.am who did lost change a few years back...what a great album that was...even though most people have never even heard of it and the majority of it was instrumental
