The state of Hip Hop..........
« on: October 15, 2001, 03:44:01 PM »
Check it, I'm in school today and someone tries to tell me that the neptunes are better than dre. So I'm clam at first and try to explain to this kid that they aren't anywhere near dre blah blah.....After a while I kinda lost it before I could prove my point........so the kid asked me to name a beat better then the neptunes beat on the fabolous album. When I tell him I'm not feeling fabolous the kid tells me to name someone on dre's label who's better  than him....(I would have said everyone but of course these un educated hip hop fans don't know aftermath's roster. ) The thing that made me laugh is he think snoop is on aftermath.....So I just said eminem. I had to school him.......so I said fuck it.. Give me 5 minutes and I'll name 50 rappers better then duke.

This is what really gets me mad..........I name rakim........and peeps start laughing. Rakim is one of the best mcs in hip hop history yet there are many people in this world who think fabulous is better then rakim. I usually don't pay attention to the bs alot of people who don't know that much about hip hop say....but the thing that is so funny is they think they know everything. How the hell can fabolous be even close to the level of rakim......... It's crazy it seems like people forget about rappers achievements after a few years.

It's sad what hip hop has become lately.

Now it seems everyone is selling out. I love hip hop, but it seems everyone is just selling out to make dough. I don't mind mcs who are respected and selling records. (Jay-z, snoop, nas, meth, etc) But that overly commercial stuff is horrible. Mobb Deep using the neptunes on their new cd is an embaressment....That new fat joe song is horrible. What happened to the don cartegena fat joe. The DITC fat joe. Fuck that shit with R. Kelly. When is this stuff end where you have to have a certain formula to sell records.
Picture yourself crushin Xzibit with your tough talk,

I feel ya Topp Dogg, there are lots of these people @ my high school who know very little, and yet they think they know everything.  The DMX, Nelly & Jay-Z people of the world.  I got into some BIG FIGHTS with people.  I even lost a group of friends.  They just don't know enough about true artists like Dre.  They don't even know what the word, 'produce' is.

I like that Fat Joe/R Kelly joint coz R is my favorite R&B singer but I feel you, son... A lot of kids are so fuckin ignorant, they can drive you CRAZY... Fabolous??? Please... Neptunes vs DRE? Come on... But u gotta let them be... One day they'll learn... But I agree with you, the state of Hip Hop and all that Ja Rule kinda shit REALLY scares the shit out of me... A lot of chicks be fuckin shit up too, word is bond. I ain't dissin chicks but when I try to explain to my girl the difference between Mase and, let's say, Scarface, she's lost as shit. And she NEVER gets it. They think Will Smith and Nelly are DOPE ASS rappers whereas Ras Kass or Kool G Rap are just "whoeva" or "whateva" coz they ain't chillin with Carson Daly on MTV!!! Crazy, right??? They don't even realize that NAS for example had an LP before "If I Ruled The World" (my girl thought it was Lauryn's joint by the way... lol...) It pisses me off but anyway, a lot of people don't love Hip Hop like WE do (just to be on net talkin about it)... Oh well...

The absurdness of people AMAZES me. I know everyone has an opinion, but sometimes people just say the most outlandish, absurd, rediculous shit. That one dude who wrote that article on Pac recently in the Source said Fabulous was a better MC than Pac. I already knew the Source had lost all credibility long before, but they burried themselves and nailed the coffin shut with that one. I hate ignorant people, and simple minded people are almost as bad. I cant tell you how many arguements ive gottin into with those type of cats. They'll almost certainly be the death of me.

That was in XXL and the stupid ass journalist actually said that Fabolous AND those Hot Boys cats were better "line for line MCs" than Pac. Unbelievable. The mag will receive so many hate mails, they gonna have to excuse themselves...

This happens to me EVERY FUCKING day! lol, it's so frustrating becuase they're so ignorant and unknowledable and they think they're soooooo right when they know they never heard Rakim , KRS one, Chuck D, or Slick Rick. and just assume since they don't hear them on radio all the time that they're not good....shit is a shame i try my best to regulate and make  little mix tapes for them but i can only help one person at a time it's kinda hard when you go to a school that's population is 5,000 ignorant strong ...u can only teach so many people

Dog, u were complaining about that, I just heard the new De La Soul joint on the radio (DJ Clue) and it's soooo commercial, when underground cats and hardcore De La fans hear that, they'll be CRYING... Cats be selling out big fuckin time, just for plaques...

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

Yo check this story out it is hilarious.

I got these friends and we were in my Health class just chillin' (cause it was a free day). Anyways, we were playin' a game where someone names a rapper and they gotta name a song they were on. So Steven, my friend, named "Jay Z" and I said "Izzo". Then next I say "Mr Short Khop". He starts laughin tellin' me to quit foolin' around. I started explaining to him who he was and he just told me to name someone else. I say "Tray Deee" He starts laughin again. He starts laughin at me for listening to "wack" rapper like Tray Deee even though he doesn't even know who the fuck he is.

We kept on going back and forth arguing so I decided I'd let him borrow a couple of my albums to listen to. I gave him:

Duces N Trayz
Space Boogie
Dillenger & Young Gotti
Quik is the Name
At the Speed of Light

He came at me the next day talking about how wack they all were. I said "Aight, tell me, whats so bad about them?" He says " I ain't even heard of them. These sorry muthafuckaz don't even get any airplay".

I swear I coulda smacked him right there.
