Mosley said he did a lot of uncredited work on tracks Devante was ostensibly "producing," including several cuts on the last two Jodeci albums. "I didn't need the credit," he says, "I was a pupil. I was learning."But by the end of his tenure at Swing Mob - this was around January 1995 - Mosley started developing a style. And one day, Mosley heard "No More Pain," a track Devante had produced for Tupac Shakur. "It was my sound," Mosley says. "My style. That triple-time double beat. When he did that, I knew it was time for me to go, because I saw what could go on - that he could take my sound and flip it. I couldn't give that style up."
I mean, it probably went both ways. There were some things Timbo did that Devante probably used, and Timbo prolly took that original sound from Devante and flipped it. If you listen to DJ Quik's older music, a lot of it sounds VERY Dre inspired, from the sample selection, to the drums, to the breakdowns, and especially the scratches and cuts. However, he took that and developed his own style, which is what most producers do. So if he was his pupil, I'm sure that he took some things from him...but 10-12 years later, is Devante the one making #1 hits in Rap AND pop?
DeVante and Timbo were a tight combo; B-Rezell - Blowed Away, what a great track
D had a problem with tha coke .. i remember sum1 saying Suge wanted to make him tha head producer at tha row when he first got out ..then he saw how bad he was on that whyte ..
