How is it a gimmick, just because of the competition part? Shit, most hood movies are gimmicks, and aside from the certified classics, most of them are ignorant as hell and just plain wack. I just appreciate the atmosphere of "Stomp the yard" more than all the hood movies, and even more than the over-typical middle class type settings that they use in the non-hood movies.

I agree with you about the atmosphere of a movie like stomp the yard.  Aside from that this is the kind of movie i can be happy to give my money too.  Step is a big part of a lot of colleges, i think it deserves some support
