I don't understand why the fuck you people give him a pass on this bullshit.  That single that I heard was the WORST shit I've ever heard DJ Quik be associated with.  This whole thing is on some real sellout shit.  No way I'm buying this album.

And this is NOT me hating.  This is me holding a fucking ARTIST accountable for the music (or lackthereof) they release.  If Quik is gonna drop music to cater to the one demographic that wack ass fucking Interscope will market towards then let them support his bullshit.

This is some sad shit.  Quik must be hella desperate.

So you've decided not to buy the record because of one song? Don't you think that's a little rash?

Itll b interestin 2 c how this turns out. the 2 questions that im wonderin is,

1. will this project ever b released? i ask 4 a few reasons,
        a. will quik and amg finish the album?
        b. if they do finish it, will interscope release it?
        c. will quik, amg and interscope create a big enuff buzz 4 it 2 make it worthwhile financially?
2. the track we've heard woz different from wot we associate quik & amg with, so were they just tryin a new direction 4 1 song or will  they go 4 it on a whole album?

I guess ill just hav 2 wait n c!
I will believe Detox when I hear a single for it and have the album in my hands.
but what if you loose your hands before Detox drops?

Real talk...I hope that the single isn't the indication of what the album is going to sound like...cuz i can't stand the single...and i'm tired of hearing all that southern bullshit these days...

Hell no.  He's not dropping a single for me, he's dropping it for someone else.  I'm tired of the same fucking thing - "Oh he's just dropping this to get some airplay, he wants to get on 106 & Park, He's gotta make a club banger, etc."  Fuck all that.  Give me some fuckin dope ass music for a single, not some lame attempt to ride the South bandwagon.  I can respect Quik trying to reinvent his sound (like on Under The Influence), but he's not doing that, he's just trying to exploit the latest mainstream trend.  So no, I'm supporting it off the single alone.

^  I understand what you're saying, and since Quik is probably my favorite artist I'm left scratching my head like everyone else

but the fact of the matter is, nobody knows what the point of this is and nobody knows what the record is gonna sound like

there can be speculation as to what the hell his and AMG's agenda is but you might as well wait for the cd

as far as people giving it a pass, I think people just don't really care

like I said, he's my favorite artist and this new shit is odd but I just want some new material, better than him retiring or something

might as well take it for what it's worth, we all can be serious about hiphop but when you start to take it too seriously the joke's on you (not you, people in general)

you do raise a good question though - is he selling out, trying to be funny, or just purposely doing a 180?

I'd like to believe the whole record wouldn't sound like the single but who knows, to be honest though I like that beat for some reason

I hear what you're sayin.  This single may not be indicitive of the whole album.  But I don't care.  I can't support people dropping wack ass generic blatant rip off singles.  I don't support Snoop cuz of it, 50 cent, Jay Z, none of them.  And now I'll add Quik to that list of tapdancers (at least for this album).  You guys wonder why albums as a a whole suck so fucking bad today?  It's because there is no cohesiveness, it's all like a bunch of songs stuffed together, each one to attempt to appeal to a different demographic.  OK, I disregard this song because he wants to get on 106.  Shit, theres 3 other songs just like it on the album, i'll disregard those also.  Then there's a slow cheesy love song, but hey thats for the bitches so I guess I'll let it slide.

And I'm not even trippin off the song in and of itself.  I just can't even get there with it because to me it's such a blatant attempt to sound like every other mainstream release from the south.

But I believe that more of the album will be like this because of his changing his name, and naming the group some trendy ass shit like "The Fixxxers".

Yeah, i feel what you're saying jrome. but I don't think
a)the whole record will necessarily be like this
b)this song is that bad. i actually was just bumping it in the car, it's coo. not a classic or anything, but kind of on that simple old school tip in the same way dre was going for that with game and 50's "how we do"

-T

Sorry man, this is nothing like "How We Do".  This is more akin to every fucking song I hear on a Clear Channel radio station.  It's crap.

Shouldn't we know the details of the deal before we get excited about it?

It actually reminds me of "how we do" more than anything else I can compare it to. I'm not saying it's as good as 'how we do' but I can see it kind of on that tip, nahmean?

It's PERFECTLY legitimate for artists to do different shit, the song's not horrible and Quik shouldn't be pigeonholed to funk. The rapping is coo' too. It's not my favorite kind of thing or anything, but I can dig it. That's cool that you don't like it, but I don't necessarily think it means he's selling out. Jrome, I know you ain't fuckin' around, and I ain't dissin' you/arguing. Just saying my thought.

I know you're not dissing.  And don't get me twisted, if Quik came out w/ purple hair playing a guitar I'd give it a chance.  It has nothing to do with the genre of music, it has to do with the execution and the intent.  To me, all he's going for with this is to ride the South bandwagon and that's it.  He's not trying something new creatively, he's catering to the sound that he believes will get him some mainstream exposure.  And maybe he got a really lucrative deal from Interscope because of it (i still want to hear the details before I decide if it's a good deal or not).  Good for him.  But my perception is that this joint epitomizes a sellout.

aight, we'll just have to agree to disagree here cause while I see how you think he may be selling out here...I don't think that's a proven fact. I think it's not necessarily  a sellout move though I will not say it's not possible.

hey I can't disagree, shit like that is lame for sure and fucks peoples music up, but of course we'll find out if that's the case when it drops

that album blueprint you described exactly portrays Snoop Dogg's latest album, a bunch of shit thrown together, now that's an upsetting record

I love that record but everybody else seems to think it's his worst work  :eh:

all of his post da game is not to be sold records are like that.

he has so many different kinds of fans to appease as well as his label, given the position he's put in...I think TBCT is dope, but yeah if he stuck to one artistic vision and pursued it it would be amazing again.

Its hard being an artist, I cannot name 1 DJ quik album that went platinum. dude been dealing with labels, gettin screwed for most of his career. He has been paying his dues for a long time, and giving us top rate music. Im not mad at him for going out for his bread, he dont owe us anything at this point, he is still a human and gotta eat. I hope he finally get serious nationwide recognition. He can sell out if he wants, you cant take away Quik is the Name, Way 2 Fonky, Safe N Sound, Rhythmalism, etc etc....and all the countless side projects like Suga Free's debut, Mausberg's record....he has paid his dues. I know its hard for yall to accept it, but the man gotta eat and im sure he wants some long overdue recognition nationally.
