Are You Still Feeling The Dogghouse Sound?
« on: October 01, 2001, 09:09:29 PM »
How do you guys like the classic sound from Dogghouse? I think I'm starting to get sick of their sound... Kind of like No Limit... it starts out real fresh and cool, then it gets real old. The sound is starting to get old. The feel of it is always the same. Time to mix around the producers in my opinion.

I agree. After listening to the Bones Soundtrack I see that Battlecat really doesn't experiment much. He has the same funky sound with "claps" and little "xylophone" sounds. Here is a rule of thumb:

"If the beat uses Claps, then its Battlecat"

I haven't seen Meech Wells in a while. I do remember that back in spring... Meech said that the Bones Soundtrack was going to be his time to shine and he would be all over it and battlecat would have very little production... well since I've become very familiar with Battlecat's sound, I've been able to already pick out 5 songs off of the Bones soundtrack that were produced by him. More Fred Wreck and Meech Wells ( I wonder if he is still with Dogghouse) would be nice. More Warren too and  Dre, but thats hard to come by.

In fact Meech was the first producer to appear as a  part of Dogghouse roster, so it's sad to see him in such a shade now. I'd love to hear more Meech. But Battlecat is cool tho. And dont trip, he's always been repetitive. Remember those songs: Kurupt's Play My Cards & Under pressure and Snoop 's Leave Me alone - they all have the same woink-woink sound, but none of yall tripped. I also remember him using the same sounds for Domino in 1993 and for Kam in 1995. So what, if he sounds good it is good then.

yea after hearing some tracks from Bones im really disappointed at the same ol tired production. Fred Wreck's shit is also getting really boring now, all that electro-funk shit is played out already. even his production on kurupts album got boring after quite a few listens.

i was really disappointed with the eastsidaz last album, i thought Battlecat's shit was extremely sub-par. Meech actually came tight on it (ive never been a fan) so hes gone up in my estimation, hes being a little more experimental.

bad azz's cd was bangin tho, Jelly Roll and Blaqtovin should get more love, they are both really tight and usually creative.

but anyway the point is.... Dogghouse should look to diversify their production or their shit is going to become extremely tired and i wont buy it anymore. im still unsure to order Bones or not.

Yea you're right... really... it seems like Battlecat is their main man and to me that's to repetitive... I think even too much Dr. Dre could bore us, if thats all we heard, it would be boring... thats why Dre scatters himself around, and his projects are always months and months in process. He does experiment a lot so we don't always get that same sound. Battlecat just seems to stick by his book and not open another.

I was really disappointed  about the Bones soundtracc I thought that this album could be a classic and put Dogghouse on the map...but I was wrong...just like the song "Gansta wit it" by snoop, Butch and nate this song is cool but I was lookin for the "g'd up" or "we can freak it" kind of beat and its also weird that one of the greatest beat of the album is by Kokane(raise up)

Why would the Bones soundtrack put Dogghouse on the map.  The Bones soundtrack is VERY gimmicky--which is fine--but obviously its not the kind of album thats going to go down as classics.  Nearly half the titles mention Jimmy Bones--its not a normal album-but a gimmicky/concept album.  Now the Wash Soundtrack so be a more basic soundtrack.  We shall see.  And for what its worth I still love the Dogghouse sound--I aint hatin.

another point about Battlecat i wanna make:

back in the day when BC would drop a track here and there for numerous west coast artists, it would be tight. he has that signature sound which is cool in its moderation. but when your talking about 7 plus songs per album of his production it gets too much.

BC is a GREAT producer but i dont think he could produce an entire album and make every track an original creative one. actually very few producers can do that (Dre, Quik, Daz, Flawless etc).
