Real confirm interest in Ronaldo

Quote
Real Madrid have confirmed their interest in signing Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo if the Portuguese star becomes available.

Ronaldo is in talks about renewing his contract, which runs until 2010, and says he wants to stay for "many years".

Real president Ramon Calderon told a Spanish TV station: "We really like him but he belongs to Manchester United and they have to decide to sell him first.

"If that is the case then we'll be first in the queue."

Calderon, who also hopes to prise Brazilian midfielder Kaka away from AC Milan, insisted Real would not pay a £54m (80m euros) price tag reputedly placed on Ronaldo.

"I don't think any player, even someone with Cristiano Ronaldo's quality, is worth that money, but we are definitely interested if Manchester United want to sell him," he reiterated.

"I would love to see both Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo play for Real Madrid next season, but it won't be easy. Any big club would have this sort of objective and Real Madrid is a big club."

Ronaldo, 22, has been in superlative form for United this season, scoring 18 goals including 16 in the Premiership.

"It is a good sign to know I have so many clubs interested in me, such as Real Madrid," he said. "It means that I am valued.

"But I am very happy where I am and I hope to stay at Manchester United for many years."

United want the player to sign a new deal, which will take him up to 2012.

"I have a good contract, in financial terms, but what really matters to me is to show my best form," he added.

Ronaldo is currently away on international duty with the Portuguese squad.

He scored twice as they beat Belgium 4-0 on Saturday, but is a doubt for Wednesday's qualifier against Serbia in Belgrade after picking up a heel injury in training.

Ronaldo collided with an opponent during a practice match and left the field with an ice pack around his left foot.

"At this time we don't know if he will play," said Portugal team spokesman Onofre Costa. "He sprained his heel - it doesn't look very serious but we are not sure if he will be fit."

They have no chance of getting him.

The president of Manu United wants to sell him, but ferguson wants to keep him at United. So well see what happens. But its gonna be a very bad move if C Ronaldo goes to Real.

Cristiano Ronaldo has 'completely ruled out' a summer move to Real Madrid from Manchester United.

The Portuguese ace is currently in discussions to sign a lucrative new contract to stay at Old Trafford until 2012.

The new terms are a reward for Ronaldo's stunning form this season, which has seen him top the club's goalscoring charts and play a key role in the team's push for honours.

But Real are lurking in the wings, with president Ramon Calderon confirming the Spanish giants would be 'first in line', if Ronaldo wanted to leave.

United's fitness coach Walter Di Salvo, though, feels the Premiership leaders have persuaded the winger to sign the new deal.

Di Salvo is quoted in The Sun: "United have his new contract ready with important figures and it's impossible that he'll leave.

"A move to Real Madrid is completely ruled out."

if we win the league next year we will get 50 million pounds from the tv , so in theory keeping ronaldo could be more profiable than selling him.

Add to the fact that ferguson wont let him go and that ronaldo keeps on saying that he is going to sign a new contract , he wont be leaving.

He will go to spain at some point but not yet, also he'd be silly to join real madrid at this moment they are for ever iin internal trouble.

It doesent make sense on a footballing level or a financial one, real madrid may be one of the biggest clubs in the world but they are not going to win there league, there out of the champions league, where as united are trying to do the treble (prob wont).

It would be silly I admit to that but anything can happen.

Man Utd have been much better than I expected in the EPL this season but have been very indifferent in the CL.

If they are to win both, I think that would play a major part in CR's decision.

If Ronado was going to leave it would have been last summer after all the rooney incident, he didnt. The club and fans stood by him and the fans worship him like a god, id be very surprised if he turned his back on the clubs and fans after they helped him so much.

Add to the fact Carlos Quirroz is like a farther figure to him as Ronaldo's passed away last year, He is enjoying his football and he must realise that he will continue to improve while he is at united. There are too many factors that seem to point that he will stay.

Bad for Man Utd. Good for everyone else.

And bad for C Ronaldo.

But its all business. Hes getting a new contract and he's letting Real Madrid and Man United bid up against eachother. Its just a multi million dollar game.
