How long do you think rap will last?
« on: March 31, 2007, 03:16:35 AM »
Everything must come to an end. Rap will never die out completely, but who long do you think rap will stay like this? Maybe some off yall know how big reggae was back in the day, but it was the same like rap. Everyobody was making reggae or reggae influenced songs. But eventually it died out. You still got reggae but its not as big anymore as back in the day.

And rap is really big now, so how do you think the future will look for rap?

rap ain't big nomore. In the charts, rap turned out to pop music, look at Tmbo's record with Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado and all that shit. Look at all that shit from the south (Young Joc etc.) or look even at DJ Quik and his dumb ass "Fixxers" idea. That's straight up pop and I think it won't improve, it will get more worse every year. So real rap will stay alive as long as the real fans (us) support them real rappers.

What u said about reggae and how "everybody" turned out doing reggae music is a good comparison to rap these days. "Everybody" wants to have hiphop beats on their albums and rap has mixed ALOT with r&b and pop  :-\

Let's hope rap never dies.

But rap is still on top. Cuz if look at reggae now, it really died out in the international music scene. But even tho rap has turned pop, its still on top, cuz its still popular.

Rap will always be here, but probably not as popular as it is right now. But im still waiting when reggae is gonna take over the game again  8)

it will keep reforming it self into different geners to cater with what the mainstream audince wants to hear at that time.

so maybe its better to say, g-funk is dying, the old bay sound is dying.  i think that would be more accurate because certain sounds just loose thier steam after a while.

Pick up 2 gats like Riley with a full 16 clip, on some sick shit like Lynch, while rippin a bitch's clit with beyonce's mouth on the tip of my dick.

I don't think there's a problem at all now. Within the last 6 months, we have gotten albums from Nas, Styles P, Young Buck, Devin, Prodigy, Clipse, Eminem ( say what you want, but the Re-Up was a hard ass cd with the "Smack That" remix as the only pop song ), which all went in the opposite direction of pop. All of them were excellent albums too. The majority of rappers will start to follow this trend, wait til UGK & 50 drop. I think rap will slowly change, and it may stop selling, but these guys won't stop putting out music, I think it will get better.

Its like rock and heavy metal was realy big in the 80s then you started getting this rock/pop bubble gum type shit that wasent hard, same thing with hip hop its got a bubble feel to it and  its pop. It corssed over and mixed with pop wich is not totaly bad but the ear of hip hop as we new it is over.
This is evident now but the seeds were planted wit Puffy and Mase and full blown by the time 99 came around  hip hop was in the spotlight bigtime.
2000 started seing hip hop belnd with many oter styles of music.

i would say that the mainstream rap is really killing the rap game but in the last 6 months we have gotton alot of really good albums but didnt really get that mainstream attention.I think its alright i doubt we will get a classic album anytime soon from anyone even DR DRE and thats a really bad sign if that happens.

Just my thoughts on it, lately i have seen a lot of albums lately (Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, Hip Hop Is Dead, The Inspiration just to name a few) which i didnt like at first but really are growing on me the more i listen to it, and the more i appreciate them. I dont know but to me it seems music is getting different, which, for me, takes a longer time to like, but in the end i appreciate way more then the albums i used to buy and like from the beginning.

Exception is Buck The World, i didnt hear any single of it, until i downloaded it when it leaked, i listened 1 time, like it already so i copped it, been listening to it every day since i have it. I dunno but this record seems really great, its maybe not an instant classic, but i would go as far to say its a South classic. One of the best southern cd's to come out since The People's Champ, The Sound of Revenge and Trill.
