New West Vs. Old West
« on: April 05, 2007, 08:37:54 PM »
I don't want people to jump on my back... first and foremost... I do not wanna see a division on the westcoast. With that being said, everyone knows there has been some tension between the younger cats and the westcoast OG's.

Recently, I have been finding myself listening to alot of new west artists...because I think alot of them have talent and have the potential to bring the west back to mainstream radio and getting overall exposure.

I just can't stand when these guys keep complaining about the older rappers that are still doing their thing in the game and makin money. They drop these lil subliminal lines or they say sumthin slick in these interviews... always whining like the older genration is stoppin them from blowing or allowing them to get their money and exposure. I can understand in the case of Crooked I and Snoop... how snoop seems to be keepin crooked down... and maybe this is happening with other artists too but still theres too much complaining. I believe if you have a hot enough song these record labels are gonna put you out there and th people are gonna react. I see these guys getting deals n shit but there are no singles so whos fault is it? I think the older generation should be doing their thang as long as they can... coz this rap shit is a career... you wanna get the most money out of it as you can... its all about eatin and supporting your family as well as yourself. I know I still like to listen to the snoop's, dpg's, ice cube's, wc's, quik's, eiht's, e-40's etc.

It seems like the young generation either wants these guys to co-sign them or just stop rappin... and that shit isnt realistic... I think its jealousy from these younger westcoast cats. Get on ya grind... get a hit record... (DON'T SELL OUT THO), and these major labels that u r signed to should put you out.

Now I knwo their are alot o label politics and the supposed fear of the westcoast... and that the industry isnt letting them cats get out but I see young acts being signed I jsut don't see singles and albums.. all I see is street singles, cheap videos, and mixtapes... and I personally don't think its the older generations fault.

Anyway thats my point of view on the lil tension the new west and old west artists have.
What's your guys thoughts? And who do you think from the new west has been the most critical?

I don't even pay attention to who don't like this old artists or new artists. It's all west coast at the end of the day. The south does not do this. Look at how they rallied around Pimp C when he was in jail and newer artists like Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, Luda, etc put the veterans on their albums. They support each other. We are starting to get to that but like I said, all this new and old west creates division. Support the music new or old. I like how DPG has Glasses on their album and Bishop Lamont working with Kurupt and Warren G. For the new and old complaining about it, get on ya hustle and create a buzz for yourself. Stop waiting on a Game or Snoop or Cube for a handout.

I like alot of the new Cali artists, but it seems like the majority of them will never put out an album at all, let alone on a major. Weve been waiting on certain rappers for soooo long now, it's starting to seem like it's not gonna crack for this breed.

On the other hand guys like Quik, DPG, Xzibit aren't very popular anymore, even though they still put out good-great music on a regular basis. Alotof the older guys are washed up to me, so I still try to look for the newer sounds.
