Goodell suspends Titans CB Jones for 2007 season

NEW YORK (TICKER) -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell vowed to draft a revised conduct policy with harsher penalties for players who get into trouble with the law. Cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones and wide receiver Chris Henry learned it wasn't just talk.

Jones has been suspended without pay for the entire 2007 season and Henry has been banned eight games for violating the league's personal conduct policy and engaging in conduct detrimental to the league on numerous occasions, the NFL announced on Tuesday.

Each player must earn the right to be reinstated.
 
"We must protect the integrity of the NFL," Goodell said. "The highest standards of conduct must be met by everyone in the NFL because it is a privilege to represent the NFL, not a right. These players, and all members of our league, have to make the right choices and decisions in their conduct on a consistent basis."

Jones has been arrested five times and still faces felony and misdemeanor charges of obstructing police in Georgia from an incident in February 2006.

Last month, Las Vegas police recommended prosecutors file a felony charge of coercion and misdemeanor charges of battery against Jones, stemming from a February 19 shooting at a strip club which left one victim with a severed spinal cord.

On the field, Jones is a rising star for the Tennessee Titans. But Titans coach Jeff Fisher suspended Jones one game last season for a "series of off-the-field incidents."

Henry, a member of the Cincinnati Bengals, has been arrested four times in the last three years.

i heard about this earlier on Rome. can't say i dont agree wit the suspensions both pacman and henry act like some str8 thugs off the field

yeah pretty much like ron artest i'd say. but i remember seeing a thread in here once about his life, and given the situations he was forced live through you can't demonize the man. however, punishing him this severly may or may not help him. i can' the judge, also i don't know if it's in his heart if he wants to change his thuggish/childish ways. if his heart wants to change punishing him this bad i don't think is going to aid his recovery. but if it doesn't want to change maybe this is the correct punishment to wake him up.  i doin't know, i'm just glad it's not a dallas cowboy going through this.

i think hes goin to get in more trouble. he was gettin in trouble off the field and now he has no choice but to stay off the field. i think by summers end Pacman is gonna get caught up wit like 50 P's tryin to make some money

man fuck. I am a titans fan, and this shit is going to HURT the team. We signed a good corner in nick harper, but the plan was to stop starting the awful reynaldo hill, and now it seems like he'll be starting another year.

I gotta admit although I love pacman & the titans, he kind of deserves this. I understand he's been faced with tough times thru his life, but in the 2 yrs (ONLY 2 YRS) he's played 4 us, he's been involved in some sort of situation were the cops were called to the scene TEN TIMES
