Alright, you got the #1 pick in the draft.  All things equal, you're not drafting on position need, you're drafting whoever you think is the best player is.  So make your vote and justify that bitch...


My vote is for Durant.  I know it goes against conventional wisdom that says if you can get a high quality big, that's who you pick.  But I watched Oden a lot this year and of course he's likely gonna be an all-star caliber 5 in the league, but it just seems to me like something is missing from him.  He rarely shows any emotion, and he doesn't come off as ultra competitive to me.  I think he's gonna be good, but everybody's still talking about his potential (didn't he avg. like 12 pts a game this year?), and making excuses for why he wasn't as dominating as was hyped.

Durant on the other hand, I watched probably a bit more.  And I can honestly say in all the years I've been following college basketball Durant is def one of the greatest player's I've ever watched.  Easily the best freshman I've ever watched.  I've seen him single handedly take over games.  He can post up, he can drive, he can knock down a 25 footer like it's nothing.  I watched games where Texas was nearly single handedly carried by him.  Dude is just amazing.  So anyway, fuck what you heard, Durant's the man.

Oden was averaged 16 and 9 a game... and with the "rarely shows any emotion" argument.. never heard of Tim Duncan ?

Tim Duncan? Who's he?  For real though,  for body type, style of play, emotion, and position you'd be better off with a Bill Russell comparison IMO.  But I hate comparing players anyway because I think there's too many intangibles.

Don't get me wrong, I think Oden is gonna be very good.  It just didn't seem like he was outright dominating these games as a 7-footer in college, against ass competition of the big10 no less.  He's very physically mature, but I just don't think he's gonna be the god that people are painting him to be.  

Then I look at Durant who was averaged 26 and 19, shot 47% from three, 80% FT, 2 blks per, routinely put up 30 plus pts. like it was nothing.  He single handedly carried his team into double and triple OT's this year in games that Texas had no business in.  He made soooo many clutch plays.  He had the effect that it actually seemed weird when he'd miss a shot, especially in crunch time.  The guy is a FIERCE competitor - he would regularly smack upper classmen in the head during games if they fucked up.  And on top of all that, he's humble and a very smart guy.  

Durant, while phyisically very immature has already shown BRILLIANCE on the court.  Oden, who's very physically mature for his age has shown that he's a great prospect, but I think he's failed to live up to his ENORMOUS hype he's had all year.  People are still banking on his potential to be amazing, while Durant is already showing signs of being unbelievable.  That's why I'd take Durant.

oden is big.... dont mean shit, durant has more skill... oden man handeled college athletes... but what does he do against people his size or bigger... im a UW Badger fan and i seen oden play... hes good. but i see if he plays against someone his size - which he hasnt too much - he may not do shit because he lacks skill.... now i havent seen durant play as much but i hear and have seen some shit and looks to have skill... and skill >>>>>>>>>>>> size anyday

My opinion is; if you wanna play it safe, get Oden. If you're feeling lucky get Durant. You can hardly go wrong with a skilled black 7 footer. But Durant has got that piff.

i think you gotta to with whoever you feel like is less of a risk. IMO that is Oden. Durant's potential has no limits, but thats all it is, potential.

Depends on the team needs

Since I'm in Maryland I'll say the Wizards should go with Oden, because they dont need another scorer/wingman. They are desperate for big men who can defend and rebound.
But since that wont happen, my post is pretty irrelevant

I like Durant's skills better.  I know Oden might be the best C in the league when he enters the league, but a few year
from now, I think Durant might be the best PLAYER in the league.  His personality, attitude and killer instinct is what sets him apart.

Oden, especially based on the declining quality centers in the league. Oden is currently a bit overrated, but he's gunna be a beast. For all we know, Durant can end up a T-Mac or a Stackhouse, while Oden ends up dominating. That could truly suck for the team who picks Durant over Oden.

lol look at he poll results...oden woulda been the center version of lebron if it wasnt for the injuries. he was the consensus number 1 comin out. in retrospect, durant is obviously way better now. but oden was supposed to be better based on early potential. he woulda been the best center in the league right now if his body wasnt 80 years old.
