New DoggHouse or Old DoggHouse
« on: April 27, 2007, 10:47:17 PM »
Which one ya'll feelin the most

Old DoggHouse: Tha Eastsidaz, Doggy's Angels, Bad Azz, Butch Cassidy, E-White, Latoiya & Kokane

New DoggHouse: Westurn Union, Warzone, Kurupt, Rage(Boss Lady Ent), Nine Inch Dix, new r&b singers/  ??? RBX & Latoiya ???

Since The Big Squeeze is out in all I think it can kind of be debated, I'm kinda undecided on my decision, but I'm leaning towards the old Dogghouse when "everybody on dogghouse is a muthafuckin crip, real shit"-goldie loc They was really bangin back then not to say that they aren't now because I really appreciate what Snoop is doing for the westcoast major props to him for keepin it crackin.

Right now I would say old Dogghouse. Maybe after the new releases drop for the new label we can see what they are working with. And also about the old label they also had a top notch production crew to choose from

Fred Wreck
DJ Pooh
Battlecat
Quaze
Meech Wells
Jelly Roll
I heard that DJ Muggs sent a bunch of beats over for the Bones soundtrack
Warren G
Hi-Tek
Soopafly

The list goes on and on. I think that is going to be key if he wants to get that label poppin again. He has a endless amount of producers to choose from. Add a couple Niggarachi beats here and there, no overkill and the label should be fine. That Warzone album needs some hard, bangin ass beats. Westurn Union is pretty much set, they got a in crew producer in Soopafly.

i would say The Old DoggHouse, they were more focussed , they were putting out quality music, Snoop was on his way to create a Millenium Death Row back then, wich was great, he had One Talented singer ( Latoiya Williams) , he had one of the hardest hiphop duo ( Tha Eastsidaz) , he had a great Lyricist (bad Azz)....and i think that the fact that Doggystyle/Dogghouse was on a major label helped alot, Promo was done better, and like i said they were focussed to put out good music... I am not saying that the music sucks, or the new roster sucks, but the quality aint there...

Yeah I'm feelin both of ya'll opinions cause the old dogghouse producers were most definetly comin correct and yeah the promo was done better, but you gotta remember that that was 1999-2002 era when things were a little different. All in all I am glad to see people actually getting signed with doggystyle records because for a while snoop wasn't signing nobody.

The old Dogghouse was better, though it did have some missers. I didn't particularly min Doggy's Angels, but they were hardly to be taken seriously, were they?

A couple comments to your list, though:

- I wouldn't place E-White in old Dogghouse; he only arrived in 2002 when Doggy's Angels and Butch Cassidy were already gone.
I agree that he can't be properly placed in new Dogghouse either. His stint was too short to properly classify him in either category.

- I wouldn't place Rage in either category. Sure, she could always be summoned as backup forces, but that's all she was: an occassional extra. She was not involved on most Dogghouse releases so to me she falls in the same category as other gueststars: she merely appeared a few times and simply put, you can't rely on her. She is a loose cannon, so to speak.

-RBX would be in both categories; it's true he didn't feature on the first releases but he was signed, at least for a while with CPO as a group called 'Dogghouse Heavyweights' and he was in the Tha Eastsidaz-DVD. I'd say he belongs to both periods, though arguably more in the second then in the first.

-I'd also place CPO in the 'old Dogghouse', despite him hardly ever appearing on releases. He was signed nevertheless.

- I think you'll have to include JT tha Bigga Figga and perhaps even Hood Surgeon on the list of new Dogghouse.

As to the future of new Dogghouse; I think they have good potential but they should aim at being potent and consistent factors on the westcoast rather then trying to be a mainstream succes. Snoop can pull it off, the others do not. They have loyal fanbases and they should cater to them. Be a powerful gale on the westcoast, not a breeze in the mainstream.

I liked the old one better (plus the name "Dogghouse Records" just seems cooler to me. Why name a record label Doggystyle ???  ??? Anyway.)

I mean if you like in the booklet of the Doggystyle All-Stars CD it was just an amazing list of projects to come: Soopafly solo album, Kokane, LaToiya Williams (!), E-White....plus THa Eastsidaz dropped with MAAAJOR west coast beatmakers playing their role as contributing factors.
Snoop just had so many plans and visions back then it seems. Too bad the industry wasnt willing to invest in it all, and it all kindda fell apart (people leaving, projects getting scrapped and so forth).
