What ya'll make of this Hammer album from Death Row?
« on: June 04, 2007, 05:43:35 AM »
I just finally got hooked up... I was surprised to find out recently that he completed a whole album and that it got leaked.  Did that 2pac verse/track ever end up on any of 2pac's posthumous releases or bootlegs?

As you'll see in the review, I thought it was garbage.

When Hammer joined Death Row, The Source said he was working on an album with Dre, Daz and DJ Quik. I have trouble believing any of the beats on that album were handled by them.

The irony is, Hammer can rap. His 'Funky Headhunter' album from 1994 was fucking dope, and his track on that album with Daz and Kurupt was better than anything on this Death Row disc.

Interesting.. I didn't know he did a track with Daz and Kurupt on that album.   But I'm sorry dude... Hammer can not rap!  He sounds like he isn't a real rapper, just some celebrity with a record deal.

Yeah, in retrospect Hammer was big for hip hop, good or bad, but he was a huge mega star, one of raps 1st, if not the 1st MEGA star; he just got a little overzealous with all his extragancies... gold plated faucets, wtf?

With that said, I prefer his earlier album, and the fillers off Please Hammer Dont Hurt Em... Pray is still a banger that Prince sample is crazy, Hammer did have skills.

With that said, I wasn't really impressed with the Bootleg Hammer Deathrow LP I got. Maybe it was just me, but the whole project seemed uninspired... almost like:

"Yeah, let's just get in the studio AND DO SOMETHING..." no real direction, if you know what I mean

I can't believe they even finished the album.  I mean.. have the dude record a track or two and see if he has anything to offer.  But why would Suge waste his money paying for all that studio time?

The only song that was worth them going into the studio was, "Too Late" and that's because it features Pac and Danny Boy and Hammer is hardly even heard.
