Do keep in mind very few people mind that much. Most people are satisfied with 128kbps mp3 rips - just the higher audio quality alone won't be enough to save the cd industry.

eventually record execs are gona come out wit a softare 2 stop music from bein able 2 download including napster, itunes, and all dat shit, cuz technically its illegal.  artists do get shares of wat they put there name on, do u think a nigga like TPain aint gettin paid 4 all them ringtones and downloaded music from sites?  artists is gettin ink off of all dat, why u think niggas is really startin 2 ball now.  album sales will go up again its just a matter of time b4 they come out wit that software and ur favorite artists goes 10x platinum again

Most people do not have a clue with this AAC/AIFF/320,192KB,etc stuff is. Their ears arent really trained to discern the differences like that.

But I predict that Cds wll become obsolete in like 5-10 years. Closer to 5 years, i say. But its just that the incentive to make full albums is becoming increasingly rare. From the perspective of a pop mainstream artist, all you want to do is make that next hit on the radio. Why make a full album with 3 singles and 10 filler tracks? Why not just release the 3 hot singles, and then with the time that you woulda saved making those 10 filler tracks, you can make your next 5 hot singles. so the Digital format seems like the best fit for this sort of situation.

i'm actually selling most of my cds right now in anticipation for this, and just having a pure digital collection eventually. I still have my vinyl collection though.

they dont strive to make filler tracks, of course not. but there is clearly going to be a few songs that are going to be above the rest in terms of mass public appeal, and marketability. I'm not saying this applies to all artists. There are plenty of artists that have enough artistic quality, that they make full albums with all great songs (Jay-Z, TI, Kanye etc).
But the trend of the industry is heading towards just one hit wonders (not in the literal sense of only one hit, but artists with very poor longevity). You look at the power 106 playlist, you see Crime Mob "Rock Yo Hips" , Da Shop Boyz "Party Like a rock Star", Huey "Pop Lock and Drop It", Mims "This Is Why Im Hot". These records are getting crazy burns on the radio, but you know what? aint no one buying their albums.. their itunes and ringtone sales are crazy though.. but no ones buying their whole album. So for artists like these, all they're focused on is making that next iTunes single, or that next popular ringtone.
These are the type of artists that im talking about, that are going to contribute to the declining sales of CDs.

Its not the artists its the people... Not everyone can do it like the person before them did cuz if they do they're labeled "copy cats".  Mims and rappers like that cant make songs like Alwayz N2 Somethin (NWA) so they go the commercial route, makin a number club bullshit song is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY harder than u think.  Even other genres of music are suffering bcuz of the downloading (which I wish would just be cut off)... If 50,000,000 people download ur music and 50,000 buy it... would u come out wit dat "Real" shit or that record that u try 2 git spins in the club? But Certain artists get certain markets (Jeezy, Mims), not everyone can go tha same way.



I pray that they stop this illegal downloadin shit (yes I can admit I'm bein hypocritical) but the sooner tha better, alot more better music would be released... nooone was downloadin in 94' but EVERYBODY (includin' old folx do) downloads in 07'
