Do You Smoke? UK Smoking Ban - 1st July...

the thread title is pretty self explanatory, so, do you smoke?

with the smoking ban coming into place in England i thought i would get the opinions of the Dub. the ban means you can get a fine just for lighting up a cigarette in a pub, or in the workplace. personally it is going to affect me, a lot. i seem to be in one of my local pubs every other night smoking... so come July 1st are we just supposed to stop?

the ban will probably make me quit (after several months of weening myself off) but i feel like its another example of the government telling us what we can and cant do. i certainly will miss lighting up a cig and drinking a pint...

i do understand the health risks, but when you think in comparison alcohol abuse can do damage aswell. but, well everyone loves alcohol.

so, what are your views. esp, people in the UK

I understand why they shouldn't do it but I don't have a problem wit it. We have it here, you can't smoke in restaurants and shit, you have to go outside and I think that's how it should be becuz I'm sure nobody wants to eat while there's smoke all up on their food. Ya know what I'm sayin'?

Yes, they used to have smoking or non smoking sections but be for real, smoke travels.

It's been like that in Cali...some states still allow it though. I agree, it's stupid to keep smoking out of clubs and bars (pubs)...But restaurants, and shit like that, I understand...you pretty much can't smoke anywhere indoors nowadays. They even banned smoking on the beach a few years back...

They just passed a smoking ban here 2 months ago.  No restaurants, bars, etc.  Can't smoke within 20 feet of any business entrance / window.  I'm not a smoker so it's all good to me.  It is kinda weird going to a bar and not have that haze, but I do like comin out not stinkin like smoke.  Plus that shit burns my eyes and stuffs me up anyway.  The older I've gotten the less I like smoke anyway.

it aint legal but you can find places where they dont enforce the law. usually old ass family owned bars and pool halls

I have mixed feelings about this, smokey atmospheres and pubs go together. But then I don't smoke so I don't really care and it is nice not to go home stinking of the shit.

Smokers make a bigger deal of it than it is, you're not being banned from smoking your being banned from blowing the stuff in the faces of people who probably prefer not being in contact with it.

One more thing I do think in regards to smoking in pubs, is that they should have been allowed to make the choice themselves. The majority wouldn't ban it but that would be their choice, as privately owned premises surely they should have that choice. But then you get people saying it's not fair on those working in the pubs so who knows.
