I peel back my layers
With my only friend
So people can see me
I can no longer pretend
To be something good
And live this false life
Everything will now change
With the help of my knife

I start with my left ear
Cut quite slowly at first
I numbed it with ice cubes
To drown out the hurt
And when it is hanging
By one last thread of skin
I gently give it a pull
And put it in the tin

Now the hard part is over
I find the edge of my face
I start peeling it off
Going at a fast pace
First over my eye
Then over my nose
I tear off my lips
Blood drips onto my clothes

Over my other eye
Then I reach my right ear
I slice it off quickly
Not shedding a tear
The air stings my face
As it touches the bare veins
As the adrenaline stops
I start to feel pain

I’m paralysed with fear
As I shout out loud
I collapse on the floor
As my eyes start to cloud
My vomit mixes with blood
As I struggle for a breath
It seems freedom has a price
And that price is death
