Planet Asia has seen and done a lot in his 12-year music career. Though the
Fresno-native has been a part of two albums by the time he graduated high school, he hit the scene hard in the late 1990s as a hungry up-and-comer, and hasn’t stop moving since.

After creating a serious underground buzz, Asia signed with Interscope Records. Though he was on the label for three years, he never released an album. Since then, Asia released two solo albums through independent labels, first The Grand Opening
on Avatar and The Medicine on Battle Axe Records. He’s also released a pair of albums as one half of the Cali Agents (along with Rasco). Now, as a veteran, Asia has kicked it and recorded with just about everyone in hip-hop there is to know.

“In hip-hop, if you do real music, everybody knows each other,” Asia says. “I sat in the studio with
Will.I.Am and Pharrel at the same time. I know niggas, man. Just from being around in hip-hop.”

Asia has recorded a song with KRS-One as a “birthday present” for Kool Herc. He’s helped Shawnna of DTP fame find a recording studio when she visited the Bay Area. He’s nine songs deep into a collaboration album with Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs, to be released on Angeles Records. He’s also thinking of starting a super-group with Vast Aire of Cannibal Ox, The Wisemen and Prodigal Sunn, both Wu-Tang affiliates. But then again, he feels he has a special connection with Wu-Tang Clan over the years. Asia says he talks to individual members of the crew for hours at a time on the phone weekly and the original plan was for Raekwon to release The Medicine.

“I’m probably the last Wu-Tang nigga, man; I’m like the hidden chamber of Wu-Tang,” he jokes.

Asia also tells us of sitting backstage a few years ago with Mistah F.A.B. and Kanye West, and HE was the only one with a record deal at the time.
