It's true... I'm surprised, I really thought he'd go to the Clippers. I've spent all day with his agent & I've heard from him himself... it will be official by latest Saturday. What a surprise?

2 year/$5 million

Lol the Heat were reported to be interested in him. I guess we have to wait and see...

^^Laker fans started hating Smush in his last season here...I never had a major problem with him, just thought he was in the wrong role (starting point guard, when he shoulda been a combo guard off the bench). He did show some promise in his Laker debut, and kept it up for some time. But yea, he shouldn't have been in the position he was. Heat are about to make the same mistake :-X...PeACe

i agree, he's a decent bench player. But definetely not a starting PG

Parker is a pretty skilled player, but....

- He's not a point guard
- He has quick hands and can steal the ball, but he plays an horrible team defence
- He dissed Phil Jackson who's 100x bigger than him

I prefeer Fisher as the starting point guard and Evans as the backup shooting guard (at least they can defend, which is the thing i see more in a player)

I'm happy we improved in them roles without overpaying Smush.

About the Heat... i don't really care about them.

Good luck Smush.

Parker eager to play alongside Wade
By Kevin Clark | South Florida Sun-Sentinel
July 29, 2007

Smush Parker, the Heat's newest acquisition, might be one of the luckiest point guards in the NBA. After two seasons running point for Kobe Bryant in L.A., Parker will now back up Jason Williams in Miami and play with another megastar, Heat guard Dwyane Wade.

For Parker, playing with Wade comes as a relief.

"D-Wade is more of a people person than Kobe," Parker said of Bryant, his often-mercurial teammate. "I'm looking forward to jelling with Wade, and playing with him. He's going to be a great teammate."

Now how long till he begs Wade for an autograph?

Heat's Smush Parker says he'll get chance to start
Newly-signed Miami Heat point guard Smush Parker speaks to the media at American Airlines Arena.

By Michael Cunningham | Sun-Sentinel.com
2:41 PM EDT, July 30, 2007

MIAMI - Will it be Smush Parker instead of Jason Williams at point guard for the Heat this fall?

Parker, who signed a two-year contract with the Heat on Friday, said the Heat told him he'd have a chance to win the starting job from Williams.

"As of right now, we are battling for the starting position, me and [Williams]," Parker said during a news conference Monday at AmericanAirlines Arena. "Nothing is guaranteed. I am going to come in and work hard and earn everything they give me here."

A starting spot for Parker seems unlikely as long as Williams is healthy. Size (6-foot-4 compared to 6-foot-1), defense and youth (26-years old to Williams' 31) seem to be the only areas in which Parker has a clear advantage.

Williams has missed 43 games for the Heat over the last two seasons while Parker missed none. But coach Pat Riley has maintained that Williams is an offensive catalyst for the Heat when healthy, and Williams has a good chemistry with Dwyane Wade.

Williams also is a nine-year NBA starter, the kind of veteran Riley trusts. Parker will be playing for his fifth team in five seasons and has just two full seasons as a starter, losing his spot to rookie Jordan Farmar late last season with the Lakers.

Nonetheless, Riley said last week that Parker still is improving "and we feel that this could be his best year yet." Parker said he believes he fits the Heat's pick-and-roll offense better than Lakers coach Phil Jackson's "triangle" system.

"We didn't play much pick-and-roll in L.A.," he said. "I am a playmaker. I like to create some things. I am going to have fun in this offense."

Parker said he signed with the Heat after also considering the Clippers and Celtics. He said the Heat could contend for a championship after winning it two years ago and then losing to Chicago in the first round of the playoffs in April.

"I feel like this team, with the right combination of guys, can get back to winning," he said.

After telling the Sun-Sentinel over the weekend that Wade is "more of a people person" than Lakers star Kobe Bryant, Parker was more diplomatic about his old team Monday.

Asked about losing his starting job to Farmar, Parker simply thanked the Lakers for giving him an opportunity.

"I learned some things, had fun," he said. "But that chapter is done and I am here now. I am looking forward to coming in this season to play."

That shit Smush said is probably the dumbest thing i've heard from a newly acquired player this year. I mean wtf? You're saying Wade is better than Kobe as a teammate and you've seen him face to face 5-6 times in your life?
