yea, well the good news is that sales always get a boost (at least on this site) at the end...I dont understand how UGK is like 400 copies ahead of T.I. only right now :-\

hopefully WC pulls in at least 8-12,000

i figured sales don't matter???

WC TI & UGK, will make their cash in the end..it won't be as fast as they figured..

This is sad news but as long as the people buying this music like it, thats what matters. At the moment I can't afford to buy any albums due to the high prices here in England and I am poor. If I had the money, I would be buying all the CD's I wanted to help these 4 artists mentioned in this thread.

You really can't make an accurate assessment with only 33% of the sales in.  Especially since some retail chains are MUCH slower than others at turning in their latest data.

That being said, I hope nobody here had particularly high expectations in the first place.  UGK is dope and all, but it was all of their EXTREMELY loyal fans who had been waiting six years for "Underground Kingz" who went out and bought this album its first week.  Same with Common.  Anyone who's selling only to their fans is going to see a significant drop-off in second- and third-week sales.

As for T.I...same case.  "T.I. vs. T.I.P" hasn't produced a really big hit like "Bring 'Em Out" or "What You Know" yet.  He'll go Plat again for sure, but this time, he's probably just gonna sell around 1 million even, instead of selling 1.7 million like he did with "King".

Oh, yeah, and WC?  Homeboy sold about 200K of his last album (if memory is correct) on DEF JAM back in 2002 (when hip-hop was still at its peak), so what makes you think he gon top that on an indie label (even if it's Cube's label)?

There's businesses that I look at everyday that gross $10,000,000 in sales, yet still turn a loss.  Then there's some businesses that gross $20,000 and still net a profit and can still eat.  Don't trip about units pushed.  This will only continue to drive cats to indie labels which will be on a much smaller scale in both cost and production, will allow them or force them to do their own style of music, they will have a more individual sound, etc. etc.  The mainstream rap game is wack as fuck for the most part.

I love UGK / Common / WC.  I want them to be successful.  But everytime something released on a major flops like a motherfucker I love it because it just means that we're another step closer to the inevitable crash of major labels and a complete rebuild of the business model in hip hop and music overall.  And by the way, UGK & Common obviously didn't flop, and WC was indie, I was just showing that I'd love it if they moved massive units but I'm not losing sleep if they dont.

WC ain't gonna sell shiet. No hatin just bein real. Outside of California, not too many people are checkin for him. And if they are then its still hard for them to know that he has an album out considering he didn't do a video.

Don't care about sales people , there are other ways to get paid for these artists , especially in the rap industry ... even if some aren"t multi-million men , they have a very good standard of life .... and I agree 100% with Jrome spot ... mainstream (which is 90 % wack) rap flopping is a good thing for the quality of music in long terms
