A drug task force made up of local agencies and the D.E.A. raided a man's home Tuesday in the Eddy County town of Malaga, looking for marijuana.

The man who was the target of a federal raid is a wheel-chair bound man who lost his legs about 20-years-ago.

Investigators say 44-year-old Leonard French had six potent Marijuana plants.

French is licensed by the state to grow and smoke medical marijuana, but the investigators did not know that until after the raid.

The state recently announced it would let qualified patients grow their own marijuana, because health officials feared that they would be vulnerable to federal drug prosecution.

French said he smokes medical marijuana for chronic pain and muscle spasms. He says marijuana is better than taking valium because it has less severe side effects.

French says he worked with his doctor and the state to get a medical marijuana license, so he could smoke it and grow it, but now he says he doesn't know what to do for medicine.

"I'm kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place, it makes me fee like someone says here's your drivers license to drive, and the first time I left the drive way, they took my car away," said French.

French has not been charged, but the press release sent out by investigators Tuesday says they still expect to file drug charges against French, even though he is licensed by the state to grow and smoke medical marijuana.

French says he let the officers into his home when they knocked on his door, believing he wasn't doing anything wrong.

I always find this argument funny.  The people who don't really have a medical condition, yet have a medical marijuana license, are the ones to blame for this.  The real patients, who actually use the weed to help w/ their conditions are the real ones who suffer.  If it was a lot stricter to get a license, and you really had to have a condition, where marijuana was the only solution, then the feds would not be going after it.  but a majority of the people with the license, do not need to smoke weed...they just like to smoke weed.  NIK, what is your medical condition, where weed is the only solution?

How would you know what I use it for, Acgrundy? Weed is the best solution to rid my headaches and intense stomach pains, not to mention I get joint cramps, lack of appetite, AND insomnia... Uh actually dogg, the medical marijuana community was very strict, under wraps and close-knit-legit for years and the feds gave such organizations plenty of shit until there eventually was so many supporters and involved people (people like NIK who came more recently) that the feds couldn't stop the medical marijuana industry from becoming what it's become. If it stayed small to just AIDS and Cancer patients and shit, it never would have gotten big enough to not just get stamped out. So actually, that 70 year old lady or that old man or whatever wouldn't have such easy access in the first place (because they're not 18 year old stoner kids) if not for people blowing that shit the fuck up to the point where perhaps a less countercultural person like a 70 year old woman would fuck with it.

But on the other hand, i do see what you're saying about how some aspects of the organization can be deteriorated by the over-involvement of people less or seemingly less in medical need of marijuana. Alot of clubs have been shut down due to such reasons but alot of clubs stay alive through doing legit business. Trust that it relies way more on the club and how they handle their shit than the patrons themselves.

And also yes, as far as access there is no need for medical marijuana prescriptions cause yeah you or I can get loads of dank without the cannabis club. but that legal fallback is nice. I've seen alot of friends get let go by the cops lately, even in the I.E., for having their medical prescriptions.

I've never had my script, but I've been a caretaker and I've been in cannabis clubs and bought stuff and it's not just 18 year old dudes man. there's 30 and 35 year old dudes in those clubs that seem just as "Hell yeah" about it as you or me.

I think I will get the script though when I get the money though because I really do use it medicinally. Since I was quite young my stomach and head have been sensitive and prone to headaches and weed's always helped with that. occasionally I'll lack appetite or the ability to sleep and it helps with that too. AND I like to get high. is there really anything so wrong with that?

And don't talk all angry when you reply to me, there's no reason to, I'm just talking to you like a reasonable human being. And reasonable human beings should be able to talk to each other without making degrading assertions about each others character over the internet.

100% on point...and you should definitely get your script, for safer/easier access. Anyone who says getting a MMJ rec doesn't get you safer/easier access is just straight up upset that they never had one. And it's amazing how people on a message board think they are able to determine what you need weed for (or how much you need it) better than a doctor can...

My only hesitation is that I want to be a teacher and I'd hate for a school to not hire me because they know I'm a mmj patient.
But at the same time I wonder what kind of access would the school have to such information. That's why shit like the Patriot act is scary.
