What do u ppl think of Double CD albums?
« on: July 26, 2001, 08:34:06 AM »
I was going through a few of my albums and many of the double CD albums i came across were generaly ok but nothing special.
I prefer single CD albums coz they tend to put the best tracks on in the restricted space they have. Instead of putting album fillers on the CD coz theres so much space. For Example.

All Eyes on Me - 1st cd was good, 2nd cd was average. Would have been better as a single CD
album.

Life after Death - Lot of good tracks on this album and some ballz. If this was a single cd
with just the good tracks it would have been deadly.

Wu-Forever - cd1 deadly, cd2 was pants with the odd track tended to be good, single CD
would have been better.

Art of War - Same as above. Would have been BONES best album if it was a single cd with
none of those fillers in it.

UTEOT - This was wak, should have been a damn EP.

Kurption - Would have been amazing as a single cd album.

Thug Mentality - One of the few Double CD albums i consider to be good.

G funk classics (nate dogg) - Same as above, this was cool.

I could go on but you get the picture, what do all think single or double cds the best?

I thought All Eyez on Me and Life after death were strong all the way through. With the exception of whats your phone number and the tired as mo money mo problems. Two classic albums.

Wu Tang Forever was pretty good but it was too long for me. Would have been better with 1 disc.

Most of the other double albums were mad weak.

Nah disc 2 of all eyez on me is just as good as disc 1 in my opinion.  When i first got disc 2 was nowhere near disc 1 but now i love it

Nah double discs have their advantages:

1) It cost less then buying 2 separate albums

2) You get more of a variety of music cause the artists tests different styles most of the time

The only problem with them is the retarded filler songs but thats it.

i'm glad someone brought this topic up, i am very much against double cds, the only oens i own are:

biggie life after death
tupac-all eyz
tupac-r u down

and i cant get into them, cause they are too long (i like ti skim thru the whole album when i get it)

and they generally havea lot of fillers,  all eyez on me is the only album i like as a doulbe cd, cuse it brings heat all the way thru.... but anyway i think they should just put between 68-75 minutes of great music on 1 cd....seriously

All Eyez on Me in my opinon is a classic.  I can sit through the whole thing without skipping a track.  Sometimes I wish it wasn't a double cd, because it led to rappers who were good releasing double cd's which weren't that good.

-Life After Death was pretty good.
-Kuruption would have been better off as a single cd
-same with Krazie Bone's album, 8ball's album, Art of War, u Tang
-Until the end of time had enough tight tracks that it deserved to be a double.

everyone is forgetting that Master P released "Da Last Don" double cd, which ranks as one of the worst cd's I've ever heard and is proof that double cd's should be left to people who can fill 2 cd's worth of tight songs (Biggie, Pac)

The only double cd's i like are the ones with bonus tracks on the second cd where you get videos and that for your computer. I like those double cd's but I don't like it whe it's like UTEOT because I think they're are too many songs and too many weak ones which ruins the cd as a whole. It's too much for an artist to do at one time aswell and because they have so much to do they're finished stuff is not gonan be up to the standards they can reach when it's just a single cd.

Hell yeah, All Eyez on Me, Thug Mentality and R U Still Down are classic examples of how a double CD should be.

I wish Dre would come out with a double album. That would be ill and since he is such a perfectionist only 2 or 3 tracks would be bunk.

All Eyez On Me and AOW are my two fav double albums. Wu Tang Forever is good, as is Krayzie's album. Life After Death, R U Still Down, and UTEOT are aight but not as good as the others.

Gang Starr's "Full Clip" is off the hinges too.

E-40's element of surprise was a big dissapointment.I was expecting it to be on the same level as all eyez on me but it wasn't. This cd was overhyped and filled with mainly filler material.
