The West will blow up again when the music stop being about the W, your set..and throwing up hand signs. The rest of the country just interested and doesnt care about that. I like what Bishop is doin..he's distancing himself from being tagged as a "West Coast rapper" by not filling up his lyrics with references.
The Bay Area is active
all bay area music is not hyphy. your comment definately does a great job of showing me ur ignorance
I would never say that it will "never" blow again, and that it will "always" be #4...but we are a long ways from coming back.It is a combination of hundreds of things....some being out of our control, some being a result of other things we have and haven't done, some being things we aren't willing to do, some being things that we just can't do.We've truly been washed out of the game to the point that if we come out with anything that isn't different as hell but still dope, or if it doesn't sound like what the other regions are doing right now, it doesn't make much of any noise. Not only that, but the young people on the West could care less about West Coast music, mainly in L.A. where the 18-21 crowd is riding the hell out of the South's nuts. L.A.'s identity right now is nonexistant, and we basically live off of the past and end up following whatever we see going on in different regions. Rappers who come from L.A. tend to emulate the East and South rappers, or either sound like they just left the 90s. Most of them haven't even attempted to break new ground, and the sound of the music has basically followed that same path. There's probably proof in some of my earlier posts...but I always felt that Game's overall sound and direction wasn't going to do but so much for the West Coast. People may have called others ignorant who knocked Game's first album for not "sounding" West Coast...but the truth is that it really was a mixture of every sound that was hot in rap, versus something that broke new ground as Chronic, 2001, and Doggystyle did. So after he dropped, companies didn't say "damn the West is back, let's put out some new rappers"...what they did say was "let's sign at least one West Coast rapper IN CASE somebody else from the West blows...but right now, Game only blew because he's with G-Unit and Dre, and because the album doesn't have a new West Coast sound to it". So in reality, he didn't "bring the west back", which is something that should NEVER be left up to a new rapper, and it's nothing that you could even try to blame him for because he did more than enough for us. However, most of us felt "Game first....next up is Bishop, Crooked, G. Malone, and all of the new rappers....and the old rappers will be able to come back in the game" but that wasn't the case because the rest of America still cared less about the West...they just liked Game and his songs. If Glasses gets the promotion he deserves, then I think he can be a force, because he has the sound that will work to appeal to the nation. However...for every "Certified" that sounds like another region at it's best moment, we need a "Tell me when to go" or "Super hyphy" that breaks ground and sounds like something that nobody in the game is doing.
i probably will lose karma over this but...FUCK DR. DRE
