Take A Break From Kanye/50 (Old School Hip Hop Audio Thread)....
« on: September 15, 2007, 08:38:40 PM »
I am looking at this board and I see that you guys are in dire need of a 50/Kanye break... and a Jim Jones/Cam break... So here to your rescue is the Old School Hip Hop Audio Thread where we get to share some of our golden oldies... Let me start first..

King Sun: Be Black  http://www.zshare.net/audio/3673562a180dc2/

This is the same King Sun that once confronted Ice Cube about him stealing the reggae chants that were used for Cube's "Wicked". Apparently, Sun had let Cube (while they were friends) hear some new music that he was working on (which had the chants). At least this is according to Sun in an old article in The Source.

De La Soul: Mack Daddy On The Left  http://www.zshare.net/audio/367362997fcdb9/

This is a B-side single that never appeared on any of De La's albums. Jeff (the young lead MC on this record) never shows up again on a De La track (at least to my knowledge).

Kool G Rap Feat. Biz Markie & Big Daddy Kane: Erase Racism  http://www.zshare.net/audio/367367848cbf1e/

Biz Markie borrows the playful chorus from Three Dog Night's "Black and White" song in this posse cut about Racism.

X-Clan: Heed The Word Of The Brother  http://www.zshare.net/audio/36737562e9f6bf/

One of the best used samples of More Bounce To The Ounce (and Lord knows there are a million of them out there). A portion of this song was used in Ice Cube's "Jackin 4 Beats" (which according to Sir Jinx was such an expensive track to make that they made the Kill At Will EP just to pay for that song).

Enjoy... feel free to contribute. I will be back with more!

Once again, back, it's the incredible!! More audio for you guys....

3rd Bass - The Gas Face:  http://www.zshare.net/audio/36743216f4aba1/

This funny song about using facial expressions to diss people and music once had MC Serch in the hot seat with Chuck D over 3rd Bass dissing MC Hammer. Chuck felt that the white group was disrespectful in dissing a black man in a black man's artform (hip hop). Funny song nevertheless and most people felt that way about Hammer anyway so it was pretty much overlooked.

Eric B & Rakim - The R  http://www.zshare.net/audio/367439356cf484/

Everybody talks about "I Ain't No Joke", "I Know You Got Soul", and "Eric B For President (and rightfully so), however, this song belongs right up there with the other classics.

Mad Lion - Take It Easy  http://www.zshare.net/audio/3674421c950bfd/

While most jamaican/reggae rappers where being smooth players with songs like boombastic & flex, Mad Lion with this song came with the fire & heat both lyrically and with the music. One of my favorite all time tracks.... Hard-hitting from start to finish...

Malcolm Mclaren - Hobo Scratch   http://www.zshare.net/audio/36744928d07023/

Back in the early 80's this former manager of The New York Dolls and The Sex Pistols was just as Hip Hop as Grand Master Flash. His song "Buffalo Gals" was and still is a pillar in Hip Hop. This song Hobo Scratch was the inspiration for A Tribe Called Quests classic "Award Tour". This song also was used for Kam's popular Ice Cube diss "Whoop Whoop".

All certified classics:

Main Source - Lookin At The Front Door
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3674920978f296/

Large Pro KILLS this sample.  One of my favorite breaks of all time.  If yall ever found yourself at the end of the rope with your female, you'll feel this shit.  If you can't relate to that, you'll love the song anyway.

Kool G Rap & DJ Polo - Streets of New York
http://www.zshare.net/download/36749477acafc3/

If you ain't up on Kool G, he was a member of Marley Marl's Juice Crew along w/ Big Daddy Kane, Roxanne Shante, Craig G, Biz Markie, MC Shan, etc.  Kool G is like the king originator of the multi's.  Was a major influence on the rhyme styles of dudes like AZ and Big Pun.

Newcleus - Jam On It
http://www.zshare.net/download/3674979cfd43f1/

This is Hip Hop in it's early stages, it's raw and abstract, and just incredibly dope.  So ahead of it's time.

T Ski Valley - Catch The Beat
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3675001b961f36/

To hell w/ 3 minute songs that fit into rap radio station rotations. This joint is like 9 minutes and it will get your ass movin.  Classic party joint.

3x Dope - Funky Dividends
http://www.zshare.net/audio/367502649265e7/
This Philly collective made some really dope joints back in the day, and this is my all time favorite.  This sample is just brilliant, I think I could listen to it 1000 times and never get tired of it.  Scarface and Warren G have also used this sample.  In short, it's about golddiggers.

Excellent stuff... +1.....

Let me tell you something about that Main Source song.... that is a classic song from a dude's perspective in a relationship... and I don't mean a relationship with a "ho", but with your "girl"... the one that you live with and love... and I know what the fuck he is talking about when he says "I'm Looking At The Front Door"....

^^^oh word.  When I first heard that joint it was like dude sucked the thoughts right out my head.  Every line was on point.

My favorite Malcolm Mclaren joint was "Hey DJ", but it's on my other pc.  And "Gas Face" still cracks me up to this day - I heard "Step Into the AM" the other day and banged it out HARD.  Classic shit.

Here is the counterpart to the "Jam On It" song by Newcleus.... This one is called "Jam On Revenge (The Wicki Wicki Song) ...
Like Jrome said, it's Hip Hop in it's purest and fun form.... this one was also loved by the B-Boys and Breakers/Poppers just like "Jam On It"...

The Hey DJ song is dope... that was mostly done by The World Famous Supreme Team who collaborated a lot with Malcolm.
