I don't think this is really a major issue...but I have always wondered what most people think. Do you consider this release to be from the 90's, or do you consider it to be from this decade?

Some people will say 90's because it was released in November of 1999...so technically, it is a 90's release. However...most people would probably say 2000's for several reasons....for one, the title itself is "2001" and there are actually a lot of people who think the album dropped in 2001. The songs got the most play in 2000, since the singles didn't drop til October of 2000, and they stayed in rotation until Fall of 2000...so it got most of it's prime time play during 2000. Also, the sound itself sounds a LOT more "2000" than 90's, as it basically changed the game up and had many people trying to sound like this in this decade.

So personally....I'm on the fence about it. Technically, it is 90's...but I would like to place it as being part of this decade for the reasons listed.
It was called 2001 cuz Death Row already used 2000. I'd say it's a 2000 release. Cuz once you got it, it was 2000 a month later

It was released in 1999 so it's a 90's release technically. Remember people, even if it was released in 2000 it would still be a 90's release since the new decade didn't officially start until 1-1-2001.

Case Closed!

I don't think it goes like that....the Millenium itself didn't start until then, but as far as decades, they go from the 0 to the 9....so people have considered 1990 to be the "90's", 80 to be the "80's", etc. etc. even if it is technically considered to be part of the previous decade.

Yeah I don't know what dloc is talking about but 2000 is the start of a new decade.

IMO, the Westcoast decade people refer to as "The 90's" is not defined as 1990 - 2000.

I define it as 1992 - 2001 (10 years) ... from when "The Chronic" dropped to when "2001" buzz died out.

Dre started it and finished it with his two albums.

How is 92 - 01 ten years ???

And the 90's is 1990 - 2000. that's logic. Westcoast decade? wtf?

i think he meant 92-01 as in the full years, like Jan 92-Dec 01. thats 10 years.

but i consider that all the "90s".. like ozir said.. cos in 2001 they were still ridin the hell outta like eastsidaz, kurupt, dre, etc.. and then after that year, the west coast just went downhill... so i tend to classify it in, more or less, the same era as all the good songs from like the mid 90s.

like i remember in my first year of college, which was August 2001 - May 2002, Power 106 was bumpin the shit outta I Luv It, Quik/Dre had Put It On Me, Bad Intentions, The Wash, On the Blvd, Area Codes (with Nate), Oh No (with Nate), Jay-Z Change The Game Remix with DPG, Liks - Best You Can, Dre had Family Affair with Mary, Xzibit had Restless out..Snoop had the Welcome to LA remix with JD/Luda. Snoop had Loosen Control, Chico coolwadda, high come down, fabulous you cant deny it (with nate), Wrong Idea, Behind the Walls, etc.. like it was damn good radio back then now that i think about it.

but the following year, 50 hit the scene, and it was a wrap.
