4 those been hatin on UK rap READ this
« on: July 18, 2001, 01:28:43 PM »
i know topics been chilled recently, but i just wanted 2 say this, like Method Man said back in '97 the uk got hhphop in its purist form there ain't no comercialism, (although we gettin a very lil bit of it now, but anyways) we don't do american accents when you hear a homegrown mc u can tell he is home grown but the language they use and their accent, they are just as good as americans but america does have a bigger scene so its obviously gone have alot morestock of talent. we got good production behind us, what we need is radio and tv promotion of the artist like the french government did and look what happenned 2 their scene its huge. n e wayz i wanted 2 get that off my chest

iraq would just get annexed by iran

That would be a great solution.  If Iran and the majority of Iraqi's are pleased with it, then why shouldn't they do it?

Here in London  we got tons of Mc's wit mad skills, we got so much originality and potential, and thats just London alone...

As long as we keep it about the music, unlike many American cats, our scene will grow in a different way from the American game, although our scene does need some government backin to get somewhere internationally. Its all about originality....

I ian't neva heard of Slick Rick but that's probably cause I'm Scottish and stick to mostly Amerikan rappers but there are tight MC's in UK.

Also I think people from Uk and that change their voice to sound like Amerikan cause it fits in an most likely is to sell becuase can you imagine some Scottish voiced person rapping. Hell I'm Scottish but if I was ever to rap world wide (cause I gots myself a record deal) then I would most likely rap in an Amerikan accent because rapping in Scottish sounds far too weird.

I am sorry kiddaz I am from the U.K and I have to dis-agree with everything you have said.  U.S.A is well ahead of us in the way of rap (and everything else) and we will never catch them up.  This is because are government and are strict laws on t.v will not let us produce and show music like the music that comes from the U.S.A.  Because America is such a big place with many many states there are different laws considering music in each state but as we are such a small country we have the same laws conserning music for the whole country.  We don't have n e big artists that are hip hop/rap acts all we have is POP.  I am sorry but if you think K-Gee and the Fuckin So Solid Crew are good rappers and shit then you are wrong cos they are just clearly not.  There beats are awful there lyrics are not even worth mentioning.  Are rap and hip hop will come up but only when the fuckin U.K lets it.  Right now we have no 1 that can make us proud in the rap world.  U.S.A even have women like Eve and shit who do we have?? Fuckin Lisa Roxanne with a shits song called No Flow which just from the title you can tell what the song was like.  All fuckin shit London act's as well.  No disrespect to London but the act's from you are shit you are havin a go at makin some rappers and hip hop artitsts but first I suggest that you find some ppl with talent first.  U.S.A has good up coming stars as well like Lil Bow Wow and Lil Romeo they are like what 12 and 13 and some shit like that and they are better than every english rapper that has been on t.v.  We need people that have talent.  If I was a producer and I spotted sum 1 with talent, I would train em up and shit and then when they are ready to perform I would try to get a big U.S.A rap act to feature on his/her first song.  Its a great way to promote youself as an act is to get sum 1 big and rap along with them.  E.G, Eminem/Dr Dre.

We need talent and we have none right now.
Shit!

First i aint never heard of K Gee?!, So Solid are garage mc's fool. GARAGE NOT HIP HOP AIIGHT?

Now UK rap is still in a developemental stage, Big Kwam, The Procryptix, two up and comin Hip Hop acts, you aint gonna see these cats on Top Of The Pops son, cos they aint like Jay Z, Eminem, Dre Nelly etc. Due to the fact Uk acts dont wanna immitate US acts to blow up, we want our OWN style.

You think US rap doenst have an underground scene? Do you think Eminem, Dre, Jigga etc didnt start out on the underground?

Uk rap is still layin its foundations, a UK rapper cant just come out of nowhere and sell millions cos there isnt a commercial fan base for Uk hip hop.

Your clearly a pure commercial fan/fool if you believe lil Bow wow has more mic skills then any Uk act....

WHAT?!

GARAGE AND HIP HOP ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TYPES OF MUSIC!! CANT YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?

And if you feel all UK rappers aim to emulate American rap son, you know nothing about the UK scene.

First accept the fact UK rap and US rap are two different styles of rap.

I gotta disagree wit you. YOu say Lil' Bow Wow isn't better than any UK act. Name on that is well known that can beat him. Bow Wow is pretty much wack but he is still better than wot we got. Also K-Gee is some wack piece of shit. I thought he was Amerikan. Talking about ghetto's and hoe's the way he does I was sure he was Amerikan. Also UK has had a chance to prove it's worth in rap but has failed because Record Label's are more interested in signing pop groups because that is wot sells in UK and some of USA so they are making their money from that. THey don't give a fuck about UK rap because they know it is unlikely to be able to maintain a standard which rakes in money for the record label but also the rapper is an established name in rap. That is very unlikely tohappen so they stick to some ol' pop shit that is dying fast except for Robbie Williams. He seems to sell no matter wot he does and he always hits number one spot aswell.

N-Imy your missing the point, lil Bow Wow is bought ny lil kids who see his COMMERCIALS on tv, hear his songs on COMMERCIAL radio and see his pictures in mass selling magazines, we dont have multi platinum artists because our game is still......get ready for it, UNDERGROUND, lyrically im sure even you could take Lil Bow Wow, its hard to explain to people who cant ackknowledge our scene is underground.

Although I don't exactly feel much of the Hip-

Hop/Rap the UK is producing at tha mo I still

support it as I feel we do deserve some recognition.

I mean most peeps here r mad on Mark B & Blade

at tha mo but personally I don't see the hype. I do

own the album & it's aight, but I got it as a Bday gift

otherwise I wouldn't of peep'd it at all. But I think

it's kewl that they r repin' the Uk Hip-Hop.Rap scene.

I've yet 2 be excited & hyped over Uk talent but I

don't doubt it. But if it's gonna b done it should b

done the Uk way, I mean most Uk MC's r jus' trying

2 hard to compare with american MC's. Anywayz

thats what I think  :)

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

Yeah dat true. 2 many of the UK rappers are trying to hard to be like the Amerikan's but UK style and that's where they're failing. Also somebody said that if a UK rapper wants to hit the scene quite fast them they gonna need to collab wit Dre, Em or that. That is true but they gotta think if you good enough first and probably UK rappers have tried to get pretty big or big names to collab with to help promote thier stuff but Amerikan's rapping with and Englishman or Scotsman wouldn't sound right but if an Amerikan rapped with and Englishmen that sounded Amerikan then it woud go. It's all about fitting in but once oyu do, keeping a standard and bringing out stuff that is gonna keep people coming back to you. I think that is where UK rap has failed aswell. Wot they have tried to rap about just doens't connect with rap fanz and so they don't sell much stuff.

UK rap hasnt failed, as its barely got started, if i heard a UK rapper with an American accent reppin the UK then in my eyes he'd be fake.
